OJJDP FY15 Mentoring Grants Overview DEADLINE: Applicants must register with Grants.gov prior to submitting an application. OJJDP encourages applicants to register several weeks before the application submission deadline. In addition, OJJDP urges applicants to submit applications 72 hours prior to the application due date. All applications are due to be submitted and in receipt of a successful validation message in Grants.gov by 11:59 p.m. eastern time on June 23, 2015. Mentoring Opportunities for Youth Initiative (official solicitation) Grant type Minimum # Requirements Restrictions Notes National Mentoring Programs ( category 1 ) 45 * Limited to national mentoring organizations * National headquarters office must apply * Must demonstrate a history of providing mentoring services in a minimum of 45 of the mentoring programs and the where they are located as attachment * 90% of award must be subgranted to a minimum of 38 collaborative to cover 45 * Applicants for category 1 may not apply for funds in any other category * Priority considerations for category 1: youth age 17 or under identified as at-risk or high-risk for involvement in the juvenile justice system * OJJDP requires applicants to target mentoring services to American Indian and Alaska Native youth both on and off reservations * OJJDP encourages applicants to target mentoring services to children of parents on active military duty; children of incarcerated parents; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth; youth with disabilities; and youth in rural communities * Awards in category 1 may last for as long as 3 years Multistate Mentoring Programs 5 * National headquarters office must apply * Priority considerations for category 2: youth age 17 or Page 1 of 6

( category 2 ) * Must demonstrate a history of providing mentoring services for at least 3 years in a minimum of 5 but fewer than 45 of the mentoring programs and the where they are located as attachment * 90% of award must be subgranted to a minimum of 5 under identified as at-risk or high-risk for involvement in juvenile justice system * OJJDP encourages applicants to target mentoring services to American Indian and Alaska Native youth both on and off reservations, LGBTQ youth, youth with disabilities, children of parents on active military duty, and youth in rural communities * Awards for category 2 may last for as long as 3 years * Applicants meeting minimum requirement of having a presence in 5 may request up to $2 million; those applicants demonstrating the broadest reach may request up to $5 million Collaborative Mentoring Programs ( category 3 ) n/a * Must be part of a collaborative of at least 3 and as many as 5 mentoring organizations * Each organization that is part of the collaborative must provide services in at least 1 location independent of the other organizations * All organizations in the collaborative must implement the same program design * Each organization in the collaborative must already have an established * No individual may receive duplicate services from more than 1 member of the collaborative * The collaborative may include different organizations receiving subawards from the same parent organization, however, official organizational charts must reflect the organizations operate independently and at different locations * Collaborative member organizations not identified as * Applicants applying for category 2 (multistate mentoring programs) may also apply for category 3 * Examples of location requirement: 5 organizations implementing 5 mentoring programs in the 5 boroughs of New York City; 3 mentoring organizations implementing 1 mentoring programs in a rural community, 1 mentoring programs in an urban community and 1 mentoring program in a suburban Page 2 of 6

mentoring program at the * Applicants must submit MOUs demonstrating a formal collaborative program * One organizational member must be clearly identified as the lead applicant the lead applicant may be part of multiple Collaborative Mentoring Program proposals * National mentoring organizations are not eligible to apply community and collaborating around mentoring recruitment; 3 mentoring organizations sharing training classes for new school-based mentoring implementing the same mentoring program in 5 different schools * Examples of implanting same program design (the same program design is considered to be the mentoring enhancement that the applicants will implement under category 3): if the applicants propose to revise recruitment strategies and implement a new training module, then all the collaborative applicants must agree to implement these same, specific, new strategies; it does not mean applicants need to start with the same mentoring model or approach, although approaches should be similar enough to support collaborative work in implementing the new program design * Priority consideration for category 3: youth age 17 or under most likely to become involved in the juvenile justice system because they possess certain predictive/correlative characteristics, are already Page 3 of 6
