REFURBISHMENT OF THE BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCE BUILDING OCCUPANCY DESCRIPTION Introduction: The University of Pretoria's Department of Health Sciences has always prided itself on a tradition of excellence and an outstanding institution in terms of its education of health professionals and its research. In order to maintain this level of excellence the University is constantly upgrading and renovating its buildings to insure that the facilities are of the highest standards. The Basic Medical Science Building is divided into a North and South block. The North block is a three storey building and the South block is a nine story building. The entire building is approximately 13430m² and was built in 1967. The Basic Medical Science Building houses the following departments: 1. Anatomy 2. Pharmacology 3. Physiology The building is made of anatomy cadaver preparation and bone stores, dissection halls, laboratories, museum, a library, boardrooms, bathrooms, lecture halls, offices, store rooms, kitchenettes and circulation space. The broad scope of the project entails the upgrading and renovations to primarily the laboratories, circulation space, board rooms, lecture halls, student spaces and some of the offices. The entire HVAC system will be replaced, the replacement of the bulk waste water reticulation, general upgrading of the electrical installation, the installation of IT services and the upgrading of the fire detection and prevention of the southern block. The main contractor and all subcontractors must be aware that the building will be occupied by the staff and students for the duration of the project and strict adherence to the presented building programme must be kept. The main contractor must also be aware that the primary use of the Basic Medical Science Building is for training and research by medical students. Part of the curriculum requires the preparation and dissection of human cadavers as well as working with a variety of chemicals. The contractor must therefore be willing to work within these very sensitive areas. 2

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMISSION OF RFI Submissions must be made on the official forms below (RFI Submission Form). Failure to comply may invalidate the submission. All submissions must be received on or before the closing date and time. No late submissions will be accepted! Additional information must be submitted with the RFI Submission documents and clearly marked as annexures and recorded on the table provided. Request for clarification on any aspect to this RFI received from the Service Provider is to be requested in writing and addressed to the person responsible for enquiries. All electronically submitted documents must be in PDF Format. The UNIVERSITY will apply a multi-criteria approach in evaluating the submissions The Evaluation Panel will select a preferred Service Provider on the basis of a ranking using the evaluation criteria and UP Procurement and Tender policy in accordance with the PPFMA guidelines. This functional analysis process will follow after the closure of the RFI process. Detailed evaluation results and Service Provider ratings will not be published. Failure on the part of the Service Provider to sign this submission form and thus to acknowledge and accept the conditions in writing or to complete the attached forms, questionnaires and specifications in all respects, may invalidate the submission.
