Campos was the all-around champion with a fourevent score of 38.925, more than a point over her nearest competitor. Campos was runner-up on bars at 9.700. Other Notable Performances Cassie Anthony, Ball State Junior - Apopka, Florida Anthony tied for first on the bars with a 9.850 in BSU s win over Pittsburgh. She tied for fifth in the beam with a 9.775. Jessica Guyer, Bowling Green Freshman - Columbus, Ohio Guyer won the all-around with a score of 39.400. She placed second on the vault with a score of 9.725, and was also runner-up on the floor with a 9.875 in BGSU s win over Western Michigan. Sara Dame, Central Michigan Senior - Maple City, Michigan Dame placed first in the all-around (38.750) in CMU s season opener and tied for second on the floor with a 9.850 as the Chippewas beat North Carolina State 193.825-192.300. Cherisse Marier, Western Michigan Freshman - Windsor, Ontario Marier collected scores of 9.725 on both bars (3rd) and floor (T-7th), both of which were personal bests. In her first appearance on the floor lineup, she tallied a team-best mark on bars in Western Michigan s lost at Bowling Green. BSU secured a season high 192.825 points and Cassie Anthony tied for first on bars. Central Michigan: The Chippewas swept the top-5 spots on the floor exercise, scoring no lower than a 9.825 to beat North Carolina State. Sarah Dame won the all-around (38.750). Two of CMU s freshmen tied for second the the vault- Stephanie Langley and Mattie Crawford. : The Eagles will open their 2003 season when they host Kent State January 18th. Northern Illinois: The Huskies swept the top three spots in all four events versus Winona State. Kristie Woodin won the vault competition with a 9.750, while Lisanna Goldschen took the blue ribbon on uneven bars with a similar 9.750 effort. Western Michigan: The Broncos improved its team score from the season opener from 186.775 to 192.375. Nine of the 24 lineup spots were held by freshman at Bowling Green. Gymnastics Release Page 4 Top Team Perfomances of 2003 Preseason poll: In a close vote, Central Michigan edged out the competition as the preseason favorite for Mid-American Conference gymnastics, as voted by the league coaches. Central Michigan, 2002 regular and tournament runner-up, finished first with 34 points. The Chippewas finished just four points ahead of Ball State, who earned 30. Kent State finished third in the voting with 28 points. The Chippewas and the Golden Flashes of Kent State finished the 2002 conference season with 4-2 records, while the Ball State Cardinals finished with a 3-3 split. was chosen to finish in fourth place with 25 points. Bowling Green, Western Michigan, and Northern Illinois rounded out the voting. The Falcons concluded with 23 votes, while the Broncos and Huskies had a two point differential with 15 and 13 points respectively. With six of seven gymnastics coaches returning votes, Central Michigan, with two votes, was the preseason favorite to win the MAC Championship held March 29.
