Enclosure 1 13th NATO TDL SYMPOSIUM SCOPE Information is regarded as one of our greatest sources of power, but only if it is securely shared by NATO and Coalition forces, so that relevant, precise and timely information is accessible and understandable by the Decision Maker. In this process, Tactical Data Links (TDL) are considered one of the most important tactical and operational services to conduct efficient and effective operations and are major contributors to the Common Tactical and Operational Pictures used by the Alliance and Coalition forces to support missions by providing near real-time information on position, movements and status of friendly and opposing forces and to coordinate and control own forces and weaponry. TDL have been around for decades, continuously evolving and adapting to cope with the increasingly complex and stringent requirements of today s and tomorrow s tactical operations. TDL have evolved from single-link to multi-link environments by allowing cross-link information sharing of tactical and operational data. TDL were one of the first secure, robust and reliable networked NATO information services, even before TCP/IP and other federating technologies came to the play. Networking and federation of TDL assets are, as they have always been, the focus of the TDL business for shared Situational Awareness and informed Decision Making. The requirements established in 2005 by the NATO Network Enabled Capability (NNEC) Concept present both challenges and opportunities for TDL as well as other NATO Network and Information Infrastructure (NII) services, calling for cross-domain and inter-services solutions to be found to allow the creation of NATO- and Coalition-wide broad information sharing environments based on service-oriented architectures. This year, the NATO Tactical Data Link Symposium (NTDLS) with Partner Nations will focus on the TDL current challenges and opportunities to provide both the realreal- and nonnonreal time domains with the relevant tactical data services and information information required by operational and tactical users and decision makers. makers TARGET AUDIENCE The Symposium invites experts and representatives from the military, industry and academia to share operational experience and technical and scientific views on TDL technologies and processes, and to discuss the challenges and opportunities TDL are facing to allow secured broad information sharing across the networked enterprise to provide the relevant tactical data services required by users and decision makers at the edge of the network. Participation is possible either as attendee only or as attendee and briefer, the latter by providing an approximately 20 minutes briefing, followed by 10 minute Q&A.
