INVITATION TO SITCE 2016 Chew Men Leong Chief Executive, LTA Alain Flausch Secretary General, UITP Dear Friends and Colleagues, We have great pleasure to invite you to participate in the second LTA-UITP Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition (SITCE) 2016, organised jointly by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and LTA s subsidiary, MSI Global Pte Ltd. Asian Development Bank (ADB) has estimated that 44 million people are added to Asia s urban population every year. 80% of the new economic growth will be generated in its urban economies where most jobs and employment are located. To provide sustainable urban transport solutions, huge investments are needed. The Worldbank, ADB and the newly established Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will help finance the investment in infrastructure in different Asian countries. Established economies in northeast Asia as well as Australia will also continue to invest in enhancements of their urban transport systems. Themed Innovating Transport for Liveable Cities, SITCE 2016 will focus on innovative solutions for urban transport systems that make our cities a better place to live, work and play. Singapore is globally recognised for advancing high standards in urban transport. As a knowledge hub, it is a well-placed springboard to business prospects in the region. As a host, Singapore offers a wide range of innovative projects and initiatives: The High Speed Rail (HSR) connecting Singapore with Kuala Lumpur and a Singapore s terminus at the planned second city centre at Jurong East. Doubling of the metro-lines to 360 km by 2030. This includes a 43-km new metro line by 2024, additional 3 lines, several major extensions, 100 new trains to and system upgrading of existing lines. The open tendering of bus services and 1,000 additional buses above the regular replacements. The Sentosa gateway road tunnel system, the widening of the pan-island expressway, Keppel viaduct expansion and road projects. 700 km of new cycling paths, 7 new integrated transport hubs, walkway projects, etc. The next generation electronic road pricing (ERP 2) system, test-fields for smart mobility, autonomous vehicles and systems. SITCE 2016 will showcase the latest achievements. SITCE 2016 Congress Call for Papers Abstract Submission Deadline 11 December 2015 Full Paper Submission Deadline 31 July 2016 The 3-day congress aims to address challenges and solutions to make urban transportation more efficient for the end-users. SITCE 2016 Congress organisers are looking for papers that are directly related to the overall congress theme. Besides the profile and expertise of the speaker, the evaluators will prioritise papers that will: Push for innovations in the different fields of the urban transport sector; Show solutions that contribute directly to make cities more liveable and contribute to the customer experience; Present real-life experiences, concrete solutions, pilot cases and new projects with facts and figures; Provide relevant ideas and models for replication in cities that a diverse group of delegates come from. We will adopt an integrative approach that balances the various transport modes and areas of interest (rail, bus, taxi, roads and active mobility). A non-exhaustive list of topics that could be addressed in the papers are: Topic 1 Rail, bus and interchange infrastructure development, including planning, design and construction, technical specification, energy friendly transport infrastructure, etc. Topic 2 Road infrastructure development and road space management, including road safety, traffic management, bus priority, nonmotorised transport, motorised two-wheelers, etc. Topic 3 Efficient land transport management and operations, including demand management, marketing and product development, resilience of the system, human resource, etc. Topic 4 Communications with the travellers and enhancing a high quality travel experience, including travel behaviour, ticketing systems, mobility-on-demand applications, data-analytics, intelligent transport systems, autonomous vehicles and telematics, etc. Topic 5 Public transport financing and funding, including fare mechanism, auxiliary revenues, asset management, etc. Topic 6 Governance, regulatory and institutional frameworks, including market structure, legislations and professionalization of the sector, contract management, procurement models and strategies, performance monitoring, quality strategies, etc. Topic 7 Mobility and the city, including master plans, the impact of demographic and socio-economic trends, lifestyle services, car-sharing and combined mobility, pollution issues on air, noise, energy, climate change, etc. We welcome submission of abstracts through the official website, www.sitce.org. The focus on people-centred mobility at SITCE 2013 was very rewarding, and in turn I felt the seminars and speakers held a very high quality. What was of particular interest to me was the close look at the Asian market and I brought back with me many excellent insights into our branch and its future and many useful new contacts.
