Class of 2007 Indian Hill Exempted Village School District A tradition of excellence, dedication and innovation

Passion Nancy Striebich If I could only use one word to describe this class, I would use the word passion. The individuals in this class are very passionate about their studies, passionate about their extra-curricular activities, and passionate about their service to others. Whether they are presenting a distinguished senior project, helping orphans in India, or saving the life of a nine month old baby, they always exhibit this passion for life. If there is something one of these students wants to do, they will do it, no matter how many people tell them it is impossible I challenge this class to continue to pursue their passion. Don t be discouraged by limitations that others may set upon you. You will discover cures for diseases, you will invent new products, you will teach the youth of tomorrow, you will run corporations. Always remember, though, to stop and help others and to give back some of the blessings that have been given to you. Always be compassionate. Always be empathetic. Always be kind. But always dream and dream big. 1

We will make a difference. Guillaume Vanderschueren, Valedictorian, Class of 2007 What is unique about this school, and especially this class, is the students open minded-ness, acceptance, and perseverance. By using these qualities and the will to make a difference, the class of 2007 has captured consistent success. We boast 20 National Merit scholars. 54% of the senior class has not only taken but successfully passed AP courses. These AP results led Newsweek to rank IHHS as one of the top 100 schools in the nation. Just last Sunday, 50 students were named scholar athletes at the hall of fame. Saying our class is accomplished would be an understatement. As we leave home and attend college and put our future plans to work, we will have to leave the comfort of home and the security of Indian Hill High School. Unfortunately and inevitably, the problems of the real world will hit us. When I asked teachers what these may be, I quickly got depressed. I got responses that ranged from globalization and immigration to ethics, technology and terrorism. As I started to worry about my own generation s future, I quickly realized that if anyone would be able to not only accept, but also tackle overcome future obstacles, it is this class. We will make a difference. We will invent new technologies and expand it uses. We will find new ways to provide security for everybody around us. We will tackle immigration. We will stop evading globalization and take advantage of what we have here. We will question questionable ethics. We will continue to be open minded, tolerant, and accepting, continuing the trends that we started here. Every student here today has made a difference in my life, whether you know it or not. By just keeping your positive and perseverant attitude, you will be able to continue to make a difference and positively influence the lives of everyone around you. As we come to face new problems, we will be able to adapt to them, just as when I adapted to a new culture here and you accepted me. The list of accomplishments and good deeds will only expand as we move around the world. When we face global concerns, we will not sit still. We will face these problems, and we will address them with the same fortitude that we had here in our community. We will continue to be open-minded and accepting. We will not stop and dwell on what we have already accomplished. Each individual in the class of 2007 will certainly make a difference. 2

it is the interactions with other human beings that are fondly remembered and recalled. Priyanka Mitra, Salutatorian, Class of 2007 Life is about so much more than quantification. Life is comprised of a series of moments, and it is the interactions with other human beings that are at the end of the day fondly remembered and recalled, not the name of the university on your college diploma or the price tag on your house. In life, it is so easy to get caught up in the quantitative, the numbers game, when in reality, there is no numerical way to measure the amount of love in someone s heart, the amount of kindness in a smile. Love, kindness, spirit, and generosity cannot be quantified. Life is not about quantifying your worth as a human being, but about qualifying yourself by what you have done, who you are, the lives you have touched, that person whose life you brightened the other day when you smiled at them while walking down the street. The impact you had on people s lives around you and the legacy of love and kindness you left with the world. Living in an affluent community where beautiful people and settings are in no short supply, getting overly caught up in the material, the quantitative, the numerical is relatively easy clothes, money, appearances may become central but while these are parts of life, they are by no means any measure of a person s worth in life. So, Indian Hill class of 2007, if you promise yourselves one thing as you head into the future, promise yourself this: that you will not restrict yourself by a set of numbers, by a set of superficial societal expectations transcribed into numerical form. Strive instead to bring that smile back to the face of someone who looks a little down and out in life. The very best of luck to each and every one of you you shine like the stars. 3
