Page Eight THE KENTUCKY HIGH SCHL ATHLETE FR APRIL, 1958 The Flying Dutchman Credit Kentucky with anther masterpiece f administratin f the 1958 Kentucky High Schl Basketball Turnament. It was a classic in all respects. The fficiating was gd, the sprtsmanship f the fans was cmmendable, and the scial aspect was such that everybdy enjyed seeing everybdy else again after a year's separatin. The whle turnament was such that everybdy was in a festive, hliday md, things prgressed smthly and the members f every team, including the State champin, St. Xavier, and the runner-up, Daviess Cunty, cnducted themselves in gentlemanly fashin, bringing glry t their cmmunities and t ur Cmmnwealth. The Dutchman rushed away frm the finals t Indianaplis at the invitatinn f Cmmissiner L. V. Philhps and his deputy, Bb Hinshaw. The Indiana classic at the Butler Fieldhuse als saw such dignitaries in attendance as H. V. Prter and Cliff Fagan, the Secretary and Assistant Secretary f the Natinal Federatin f State High Schl Athletic Assciatins. ne thing that amazes the Dutchman is hw these prs, Ted Sanfrd and L. V. Phillips, alng with their assistants, Je Billy Mansfield and Bb Hinshaw, can be s relaxed when administering such imprtant state-wide classics. It is an achievement which many f us prne t ulcers may well attempt t cpy. As the final chapter is written n Kentucky basketball, the Dutchman salutes the schls frm the Nrth t the Suth t the East t the West f Kentucky fr gd, hard basketball play backed up with utstanding sprtsmanship frm all areas. Bill Harrell, well knwn ver Kentucky in athletic circles, writes that Cach "Aggie" Sale deserves an rchid fr his fine treatment in supplying ckes at half-time fr fficials, and hamburgers after the ball games are ver. Bill ges n t say that all f the caches in the Bluegrass area have been fine t fficials. Sme f thse wh stand ut in his mind are Len Kingslver and Jim Pickens f Danville, Claude Lgan f Elkhrn, Letch Nrtn f Clark Cunty, Hmer Bickers f Frankfrt, and Bbby Barlw f Sctt Cunty. T further emphasize sprtsmanship, Cach Snny Hubbs f Sedalia brings glry t his Sedalia High Schl by taking time t write a cngratulatry letter t Ams Teague and Bb Frsythe fr the fine jb f fficiating dne fr his team during the year.
