Community Playhouse sets annual Honky Tonk Community Playhouse will provide a olution for those suffering from cabin ever with its annual Honky Tonk show, hich is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday nd Saturday, Feb. 15-16, at the Oil City oose Lodge along Halyday Run Road. The show, Vacation, is the troupe s irst show of the 2019 theater season. Vacation is packed with lively musial numbers interspersed between diaogue that tells the story of five members f the Grisold family trying to choose the ocation for a perfect family vacation. With a cast of 30 members, Vacation s destined to be one of the largest prouctions in Honky Tonk history. Judy Millar and Donna Tarleton, a ister duo, are authors and directors of he show. The two also perform in the how, playing persistent travel agents ho help the Griswold family make their acation plans. Members of the Community Playhouse oard of directors fill the various roles of roducer. The cast also includes Joe Gerzina, ho plays the Griswold father; Pam atkins, who plays the Griswold mothr; and Raquel Myers and Hannah lowman, who are the Griswold chilren. Dan Kayler plays the uncle and ike Eichholtz will portray Captain blivious. About the show: The Griswolds explore a variety of acation sites via the travel agents comuterized options and larger-than-life oncreen scenery which can be viewed by he audience. The choices are tantalizing: enticing ictures of lofty mountains, wilderness ampsites, thrilling theme parks, luxurius casinos and sunny, sandy beaches eckon the family to Badda Book Badda oom with them. There is just one glitch getting the ive Grisold family members to all agree n one vacation site. The sudden appearance of a born-to-bewild woman (played by Jennifer Wellington) adds a surprise twist to the plot. Accompanying each vacation option photo, the cast will entertain the audience with dazzling dance routines and popular, familiar musical selections that tie in with each vacation location. Holiday Road, Rocky Mountain High, Hello MuddahHello Faddah, It s A Small World, Luck Be a Lady, Thriller, Surfin USA, Born to be Wild, and Time of My Life are just a few examples of the many songs that will entertain Vacation audiences. Comedy-laced riddles will add a huge dose of laughter to this already fun show. In some scenes, the audience will be invited to participate and sing along with the cast. Additional cast members of Vacation include Jim Ahrens, Tracy Brown, Mary Jane Bussard, Gary Dittman, Joyce Dittman, Deb Hardy, Dave Heath, Jeannine Guth, Trina Hess, Jenny Jack, Kathy Kahle, Doug Kennedy, Deb Letke, Nathaniel Licht, James McDonald, James McGinnis, Will Price, Noelle Razeman, Tammy Schwab, Jeff Shotts, Jeff Smith and Joe Thompson. Tickets for the show, to be held Feb. 15-16, will cost $12. Those who wish to have dinner before the show will pay $22. The dinner will be served from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. Advance reservations are needed for those who opt for the meal. Reservations may be made by calling 677-7469. Those who call should leave their name, telephone number, which night they wish to see the show, the number of tickets that are needed and whether those tickets include the meal. Someone will return calls to confirm the reservations. Dinner reservations must be made by Monday, Feb. 11. The Moose lodge is located at 541 Halyday Run Road, Oil City. Hopefuls perform in talent show Performers ranging from dancers to musicians to magicians will compete for over $1,000 in cash and prizes in the Celebration of Talent competition at the Barrow-Civic Theatre on Saturday. The event will be presented by the Barrow-Civic Theatre and Franklin Rotary Club. Audience votes will decide which of the 12 contestants, shown below, will win the prizes. 4 The Derrick./The News-Herald: Friday, February 8, 2019 Winter Concert Series Cult Classics, featuring McKenzie Lee Sprague of Erie, will perform from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. today in the Great Room at the National Transit Building. The performance is part of the Oil City Arts Council s winter concert series. Sprague has performed at the Oil Region Indie Fest in the past. Tickets are $10 at the door for general admission or $8 for arts council members. Nature Art Showcase Wildlife, landscapes, outdoor recreational activities, wild flowers and many other 2-D and 3-D images from the great outdoors will be among the original artwork featured in the fourth annual Nature Art Showcase and Sale to be held today and Saturday in Franklin. There is no fee to attend the event, which will be held in the lobby of the Barrow-Civic Theatre. A free public reception will kick off the art exhibit from 5 to 7 p.m. today. The exhibit will continue from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. Celebration of Talent The Barrow-Civic Theatre and Franklin Rotary Club will hold a Celebration of Talent where local people will showcase their talents and compete for cash prizes. The competition will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Franklin theater. Individual and group acts with performers of any age of any talent may audition for the competition. All manner of performance are acceptable, including singing, dancing, playing an instrument, martial arts, magic or anything else. First and second place winners will receive $500 and $300, respectively. Other prizes include gift certificates from Franklin Retail & Business Association. Some songs that will be featured include The Wahbash Cannonball, San Antonio Rose and The Wreck of the Old 97. The program is being repeated due to weather issues in January, when it was first scheduled to be held. The Princess and the Terrible Time Troll Oil Region Ballet presents The Princess and the Terrible Time Troll at the Barrow-Civic Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22; and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. This comedic ballet centers on a young Princess and her sleep-over friends who stay up past curfew, and thereby trigger a local curse and release a terrible troll upon the kingdom. Bluegrass Festival The 12th annual Oil Country Bluegrass Festival will be held at the Days Inn, 1 Seneca St., Oil City, starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22. It will run through Sunday morning, Feb. 24, and will feature 18 bands. There will be drawings, and T-shirts and CDs will be available for sale. Six bands will perform on Friday evening, beginning at 6 p.m. and ending at 9:30 or a little later. There will be a 50/50 drawing. There are 18 bands lined up for Saturday, Feb. 23, beginning at 1 p.m. and ending at 10:30 p.m. or later. There will be raffles and two 50/50 drawings; the basket raffles will be for a guitar, a mandolin and a banjo.
