How will YOU Remember those who have served? Dear Friend, Memorial Day has always had special meaning to Sergeant Tom Shepard, as he remembers his buddies who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Tom was lucky... he came home... but his life was forever changed on one fateful day in Afghanistan. For Tom, the life-changing event was an IED blast that ripped through his body. Tom required immediate surgery in Khandahar and was flown to Germany for more care. He was finally transferred to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, where he spent many agonizing days in the ICU. Other wounded heroes, like Tom, live each day with the visible and invisible scars of war. They suffer from ailments like traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, and polytrauma. They have lived through soul-jarring bomb blasts that have caused burns, claimed limbs, and stolen the lives of comrades. You can help our American Heroes AND make this Memorial Day truly special. Your gift today can help connect wounded troops with their families during their long hospital stays; it helps connect them with critical support services in their hometowns, or helps them file medical claims in the often confusing VA healthcare system. Please help our veterans by sending a special Memorial Day gift TODAY. This Memorial Day, you have the opportunity to honor our brave heroes, like Tom, by paying tribute to those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Enclosed is a very special Rose. This single red rose is small... it may even seem insignificant. (over, please)
But when it is woven together with thousands of other roses,it will send the very powerful message that you are grateful for the sacrifices made by those who have honorably served our nation. Our Memorial Wreath will not be complete without YOUR Rose! By following these THREE very simple steps, you can help ensure that your Rose is included in our Memorial Wreath which will be presented at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. STEP #1: Complete the enclosed Memorial Day Honor Card. I will see that your card is delivered to a hospitalized veteran. Think of what your card will mean to a hospitalized veteran when you let them know the sacrifices they made for their country are not forgotten. STEP #2: Return your Rose in the return envelope I have provided. When I receive your Rose, it will be placed together with thousands of other roses from grateful Americans across the country to form a giant Memorial Wreath. Return Your Rose so that it can be woven with thousands of others to form the Memorial Wreath. Our Memorial Wreath will be laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier during a very special public ceremony. Our Memorial Wreath will be presented in memory of our brave heroes who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. STEP #3: Mail your Rose and Memorial Day Honor Card to me along with your special Memorial Day donation of $15, $25, or more in the enclosed reply envelope. Your donation will allow The American Legion to continue to meet the special needs of our veterans... just as we have for almost 100 years. Thank you for helping me honor our fallen heroes this Memorial Day and for your generosity. May God Bless our fallen heroes.... May God Bless America! Sincerely, Daniel S.
