January 9, 2012 Dear District Leader: Enclosed please find the materials for registration for the 2012 Mid-Winter Conference and Board Meeting to be held in Bellingham, Washington the weekend of March 2 March 4, 2012. We are asking that all of you call the Best Western Lakeway Inn directly for your room reservations. The number is 1-888-671-1011 or 1-360-671-1011. We have negotiated a Kiwanis rate of $110.00 USD (plus 10.5% hotel tax) for both Kings and Double/Doubles. You MUST make certain to identify yourself as a Kiwanian in order to receive this rate. In order to guarantee a room, you will need to do this before Thursday, February 2 rd. After that date, the hotel does not guarantee the availability of rooms or the Kiwanis rate. This is a busy hotel just off Interstate 5 so it does fill up quickly! Your registration sheet with meal options and payment needs to be back to us at the District Office by Friday, February 24 th. Because we must give the hotel our meal counts prior to the conference, we are not able to sell additional meal tickets at the door. You MUST pre-register. For the Lt. Governors If your successor has been identified and/or elected, we are asking that you please pass along these Registration materials to them. Please let your successors know that they are welcome to attend. While we are not able to provide Lt. Governor-elects with any financial support to attend this conference, many Lt. Governors who have attended Board meetings prior to their training have said that it gave them a head start in preparing for their year! We find that this meeting is very useful for incoming Lt. Governors and they will also have the opportunity to meet with Governor-elect Greg Holland Saturday morning. As they will be serving with him, this is an opportunity to start to building relationships amongst the 2012-2013 team. Please note also that Governor Claudellis inviting your Division Growth Chairs to attend the weekend. These should include your New Club Building Chairs and the Club Counselors for your division. Please pass this package on to them as well. We suggest that you can help your Lt. Governor-elects and Growth Chairs out financially (and cut your own costs) by car-pooling and/or sharing a room. As always, we look forward to a great weekend of Kiwanis fellowship. See you in Bellingham! Sincerely, Cleve Parker District Secretary & Treasurer

PNW 2012 Mid-Winter Conference To the PNW Leadership Team, Our most effective resource is the well trained and energized member. To that end, Governor-Elect Greg and I are structuring our Annual Mid-Winter Conference with you, the Division Leadership Team in mind. The focus of the Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon C. S. I. workshop will be to explore solutions to the challenges you are experiencing. You are the Agenda. On Friday, we would like each of you to address the group for 5-8 minutes, sharing real case experiences and successes that you are facing within your division. Saturday afternoon we will have an open forum, which will be the opportunity for you to discuss the issues raised Friday with your peers. If you have issues that you wish to have discussed please forward them to me prior to the sessions or we will just pick up the issues as you relate them on Friday. During the Conference, there will be a Club Leadership Education Planning and Scheduling session with Vicki Frucci, District Education Chair. You will be asked to select the date and location for your sessions. There is a direct correlation between the failure to attend Club Leadership Training and Clubs in crisis. You and your successors are responsible for encouraging incoming Club Officers to attend these training sessions. Saturday afternoon s Growth Forum will take an approach based on two tough love trust: 1. It s not about bigger being better, rather it s about smaller not being able to meet the unmet needs of children and families now and in the future. 2. It s our legacy, how will we guarantee its long term survival and value. The future of our organization is dependent on our ability to attract and retain members who will carry-on the valued service being provided by your clubs. The Saturday night social will be a time for fun and fellowship. Take a look at the hats-extravaganza flyer included in the conference package for details. During the Business Session we will bring you up-to-date with changes being purposed by Kiwanis International. If approved, there will be several dramatic changes to the Standard Form for Club By-laws that will give Clubs more flexibility. As you know, our focus this year is MAS; More Membership, More Awareness and More Service. Continuing this emphasis, along with focusing on our core-values, enhancing our members Kiwanis experience and introducing new approaches to growth and service, will result in the PNW being the Premier Service Organization in the Pacific Northwest. We will find ways to stand-out ; doing the unexpected and improving on what you are doing. Looking forward to a great Mid-Winter Conference!
