The Florence Rotary Club will be presenting three (3) Boone County Teacher of the Year awards in the spring of 2014. We hope you will participate by submitting the nomination of a teacher who meets or exceeds our criteria. A monetary award from a corporate sponsor will be given to each of the three finalists to be given to the charity or school cause of their choice. Rotary International is an organization of service clubs known as Rotary Clubs, located all over the world. World-wide, there are more than 32,000 clubs with over 1.2 million members. The stated purpose of the organization is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary s best known motto is SERVICE ABOVE SELF. This motto defines the object of Rotarians to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of a worthy enterprise. Considering our motto, the Florence Rotary Club will honor 3 teachers out of all Boone County schools for their demonstration of Service Above Self throughout his or her teaching career. Criteria for Nomination A candidate for Rotary Teacher of the Year should be an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled teacher in any Boone County school, pre-kindergarten through grade twelve, who is planning to continue in an active teaching status. (Supervisory and administrative responsibilities should be of secondary consideration). To be eligible, your nominee must: Be currently employed as a teacher in a public or private school in Boone County Inspire students to learn Have the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues Play an active and useful role in the community, as well as, in the school Be poised, articulate, and possesses the energy to withstand a taxing schedule Exemplify the Service above Self standard in his or her professional and community environment If the teacher has been previously nominated and was not the award winner they are still eligible to receive the award
