Dellinger will be joined trackside at Hayward Field by a trio of athletes who excelled under his tutelage: Rudy Chapa, UO standout and former 3,000-meter American record holder; Mary Slaney, breaker of six world records in 1982 and double gold medalist at the 1983 World Championships; and Pat Tyson, acclaimed head coach at Gonzaga University. Mary Slaney (née Decker) won gold medals in the 1,500m and the 3,000m at the 1983 World Championships. She was the first woman in history to break 4:20 in the mile.
