Practice Guidance Notes form part of the Trust s Infection, Prevention and Control policy, and it is expected that staff will follow the guidance contained within them unless there is a compelling reason to deviate from it. Such reasons should be documented whenever the circumstance occurs and notified to the IPC team so that modifications to future editions can be made if necessary. The IPC Team should be contacted to report cases of infectious diseases see IPC-PGN-05 - Reporting and Notification of Infectious Diseases 3 Out of hours access to Infection Prevention and Control Advice The Trust are part of a Memorandum of Understanding between local NHS Trusts and Public Health England This Memorandum of Understanding enables the Trust to seek advice in the event of an outbreak or a need to seek urgent advice relating to infection control issues. Infection Prevention and Control Modern Matrons can be contacted via St. Nicholas Hospital Switchboard for urgent advice. The on call service provided is: 1

Monday to Friday 17.00 until 21.00 Saturday and Sunday 09.00 21.00 Bank Holidays 09.00 21.00 Between the hours of 21.00 09.00 contact the on call manager who will offer advice and management of the situation until the IPC Matron is available. If the matter is deemed to be an immediate serious infectious risk to the health and wellbeing of both patients and staff, the on call manger will contact the North of Tyne Health Protection Unit for advice. 2
