There were 2.07 million total job postings for 10 occupations in Q2 2015. Almost 50% of IT jobs nationwide are for Application Software Developers and Computer System Analysts, and the job most difficult to fill is the Information Security Analyst. The highest median wages are found in the West, where California still dominates the IT wage market. Median wages for Research Scientists exceed $50/hour, making it the highest paid occupation in the sector. INFORMATION SECURITY ANALYSTS VA Largest workforce; highest number of completions. NY Highest median wages. Fourth highest number of jobs. 30% Over 30% of all openings for Software Engineering talent are in three states. 19.1% CA The Information Security Analyst workforce is expected to increase 33% by adding 109,000 jobs nationwide over the next ten years. The West still dominates the IT sector in terms of jobs and job seekers, but the South with a 21% growth in jobs is catching up. METHODOLOGY Data was predicted from 2014 to 2019 to calculate the projected number of annual job openings. These projections take into account openings related to job growth and openings due to replacement needs. Regional definitions conform to the U.S. Census Bureau s norms. In order to capture a complete picture of industry employment, data was integrated from economic, labor market, demographic, and education data from over 90 government and private-sector sources, creating a comprehensive and current database that includes both published data and detailed estimates with full coverage of the United States. Specifically, data covered employment data from Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW-produced by the Department of Labor), with total employment data in the Regional Economic Information System (REISpublished by the Bureau of Economic Analysis or BEA). This is augmented with County Business Patterns (CBP) and Non-Employer Statistics (NES) published by the U.S. Census Bureau. Projections are based on the latest-available industry data, 15-year past local trends in each industry, growth rates in statewide and sub-state area industry projections published by individual state agencies (where available), and growth rates in national projections from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Through this combination, gaps in sources were filled (such as suppressions and missing proprietors). This yields a composite database that leverages the strengths of all its sources. Data within this report represents first and second quarter 2015 results. *This data was compiled in partnership with EMSI and CareerBuilder. 7 SUPERIOR GROUP
