COUNCIL REPORT Meeting Date: October 15 th, 2018 Department: Chief Administrative Officer (Economic Development) Prepared By: Demetri Makrakos, Economic Development Officer Reviewed By: Greg McClinchey, Chief Administrative Officer SUBJECT: BIGM Program Summary from Fall 2018 Delegation to South Africa RECOMMENDATION: That Council receive the accompanying Power Point Presentation, relating to the Municipality s most recent delegation to Mbizana, South Africa, for general information purposes. BACKGROUND As part of the Building Inclusive Green Municipalities (BIGM) initiative previously discussed and publicly approved by Council, Strathroy-Caradoc was required to send a Delegation to Mbizana, South Africa, to meet with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), the South African Local Government Authority (SALGA) and with Municipal staff in Mbizana. Specifically, this trip was intended to continue discussions on local economic development and to advance the three project deliveries expected from this partnership (and articulated in the joint agreement signed between Strathroy-Caradoc and Mbizana in December of 2017): 1) Mbizana s Organizational Review; 2) Establishing a Business Incubator in Mbizana; and 3) Documentation of RED Hub development. This presentation will reflect on the activities and discussions Strathroy-Caradoc project members engaged in while most recently in Mbizana. The presentation will also touch on the next steps of the project and reinforce the takeaways that make this project worthwhile for Strathroy-Caradoc. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS Municipal financial implications associated with this project are confined to articles such as staff time and other in kind contributions (general knowledge, use of Municipal resources such as email, etc.). All expenses are paid by Global Affairs Canada via FCM. ATTACHMENTS South Africa presentation to Council 2018-10-01 Page 1 of 1
