NC Teaching Fellows Program: The NC Teaching Fellows Program is returning for STEM or special education teachers. It is anticipated 200 recipients will be selected. North Carolina Community Foundation Scholarships: North Carolina Community Foundation offers a number of scholarships to students in Perquimans County. Simply go on line and in the search area --- type Perquimans. http://www.nccommunityfoundation.org/scholarships FAFSA and RDS: Similar information is required for both the FAFSA and RDS forms. Please see attached information to help you identify things you will need before attempting to complete the forms. West Scholars: Catawba College s Academy for Teaching was established in 2007 to answer the ongoing need for excellent teachers and to further enhance the outstanding Teacher Education Department. October 13, 2017 Junior Women s Club of Perquimans County s Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship The Junior Women s Club of Perquimans County (JWCPC) is proud to offer two $1000 scholarships in honor of Sallie Southall Cotten, a founder of the North Carolina Federation of Women s Clubs. The scholarships are open to seniors (female or male) from Perquimans County High School and Gates County High School. One winner will be selected from each school. Judging is based on the applicant s character, scholastic record, demonstration of ambition and leadership, potential to succeed, and financial need. Applicants must be present for judging at the time and place designated below. Applicants must meet the following criteria: 1. Be a North Carolina resident. 2. Be in the top 25% of their class. 3. Plan to attend a 4-year college or university in North Carolina. Applicants must submit the following: 1. Official GFWC-NC application form (attached). 2. Recent photograph. 3. List of extracurricular activities, honors, and community activities. 4. Personal letter as to why the student desires to continue their education, the student s future plans, and why financial aid is necessary. 5. Letter of recommendation from the school principal, guidance counselor, or a school teacher. 6. Letter of recommendation from a business or professional person OTHER THAN SCHOOL PERSONNEL. 7. Most up to date high school transcript, including GPA weighted and unweighted, rank in class, and ACT and/or SAT scores. 8. Copy of most recent Federal Tax Return for applicant s parent(s)/guardian(s), and the applicant. Document any significant changes in family income if necessary. Completed applications must be submitted to the Perquimans or Gates County High School Scholarship Advisor/Senior Guidance Counselor, by 12:00pm on November 30, 2017. Incomplete applications will NOT be considered. The JWCPC will review all applications received and select one winner from each school. Interviews may be conducted if necessary, so applicants must be able to attend an interview on the evening of December 14, 2017, at the Perquimans County Cooperative Extension office in Hertford, NC. The JWCPC will also select a top finalist from the two school winners. The top finalist is expected to attend the GFWC-NC District 9 Arts Festival in Dare County on February 3, 2018, to be interviewed for the District level scholarship for additional award monies ($1000). District winners go on to compete for the State level scholarship of $12,000 ($3,000 per year for four years), and $1000 for the runner-up. Suzanne Towe Haste Merit Award The Perquimans Arts League is pleased to announce the Suzanne Towe Haste Merit Award and Exhibit for High School seniors and juniors, residing in Perquimans County. The Merit Award is administered through the Perquimans County Schools Foundation. The Merit Award recognizes students of outstanding ability who will be majoring in the Arts in college or have applied to a summer program or camp for the arts. This award is made to applicants without regard to financial need. The winner will be invited to the Perquimans Arts League Annual meeting; at which time he/she will be asked to exhibit a sample of their talent. At this time, they will receive a certificate and a student membership in PAL. The monetary award will be presented at the Perquimans County Schools Foundation ceremony. Students will be expected to submit work from their Junior and/or Senior year. All applicants, regardless of category, must submit items representative of their best work. Eligible categories are: Fine Arts or Crafts students - three (3) original works (on a CD) Music a 10 15-minute CD Dance and Drama a 10-15-minute video Theater Arts 10-15-minute CD Creative writing - 3 essays, poems, plays and /or prose Members of the Perquimans Arts League Merit Award Committee will judge all entries. To participate, students must submit a complete application.
