VFW Messenger Queensbury Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6196 and Auxiliary QVFWP6196.org Commander s Message Hello Brothers and Sisters: Volume 24. Issue 9 March 2018 Gary Kaiser, Commander Kelly Sweet, Editor Loyalty, Honor, Service Well we are past the half way mark of winter and we are all looking forward to spring. We still have some bad weather coming because Mother Nature always keeps on our toes. We celebrated our 51 st Anniversary with a pot luck style dinner enjoying all the favorite recipes of the members that attended. These events are planned for the upcoming months so keep these dates: May 1 st will be a Bike raffle by the Auxiliary to benefit the VFW National Children s Home to supply bikes for the children to enjoy. Contact the Auxiliary for tickets $5.oo each or a book of 5 for $20.00 May 26 th is our annual Commanders Project fundraiser. Elvis will be making an appearance at 2 & 6 pm. See the flyer inside. Advanced tickets are available. Tickets are at post or contact me at 518-307-8313. I attended the HMCC meeting and will attend the District 3 meeting and Chevron Ball. Both are concentrating on new membership and retention. The post need to obtain new members to continue the good work we provide to our local community. With the passing and aging of our founding members we need to interest the younger members of our military. If you have a brother, sister, son, grandson, daughter, granddaughter, nephew or niece that have served in combat zone and are eligible, Surprise them with an annual membership or purchase a Lifetime Membership to get them all the additional national benefits and discounts now available thru the VFW. I am still planning on a full spring cleaning both of the basement and the area around the post. The signs have taken a beating with the weather the last couple of years and need some TLC. Last by always, HELP is need at Bingo. Just a few hours each week to help sell cards or call back winners. Bingo provides the funds needed to help our local vets. That was the reason we joined to help our brothers and sisters. ONCE A VET ALWAYS A VET. God Bless our Troops. Commander Gary Kaiser
Auxiliary President s Message Anchored to Serve Our Veterans And Their Families Dear Comrades & Sisters- Wow! It seems like the year is flying by! March is here! And that means this year is coming to end. Yearend reports will have to be mailed in by the end of the month and now it s time to think about elections of officers. We will hold nominations and elections on April 16 at our regular meeting which starts at 6 pm. Please, if you are interested in an office or know someone is interested please come and make your nominations and vote! I encourage everyone to attend to the monthly meeting this month. Not only for elections, but for new information and would like your input as well! The organization is changing with the times and we will have more in the near future, about the dues process as well as new scholarships and programs for the coming year. I am very proud of our Auxiliary, as we have accomplished much this year. Winter is still here. The weather is unpredictable so stay prepared. Check in on your friends and neighbors. We are doing well with the kitchen for bingo, but as the weather improves, so does the crowd at bingo, and we are still in need of volunteers to help out in the kitchen. We are getting by with the handful of people that are willing to volunteer a couple of hours on Tuesday nights, so the people that are working it are getting very tired. Please consider giving a couple of hours of your time to help our VFW! I will be attending the District Gold Chevron Ball in Saratoga, and then on to Syracuse for the Auxiliary Spring Conference. It is my pleasure to represent you at these events, but I am hoping that more of our members take an interest in our mission to help not only our own VFW Post, but to help all our Veterans who have to fight for every benefit they can get and deserve. In order to help our Veterans, we must participate, and encourage other eligible members to join in with all we do. It is great to receive all the thank you notes from the schools, and charitable organizations that we donate to, and it gives us a great fuzzy feeling inside, but we need to continue to raise money in order to accomplish this. April 21, we have are hosting a Mother s Day Vendor Event and Craft show! Please come down and support us! We are still looking for a few vendors if you know any. Also donated baked goods would also be appreciated to help raise money and of course Anyone that wants to come down and help out is always appreciated. Also for those who have not paid their dues for 2018. Please do so as soon as possible. According to Section 104 in Bylaws and Ritual, The membership year of the Auxiliary is from January 1 to December 31. A member who has paid their dues to December 31 is in good standing. Loyally yours, Our meetings are the 3rd Monday of each month at 6:00 pm, and I hope that more of you can come and give us your input... For the March meeting which will be March 19, we are ordering delicious pizza and wings to have after our meeting and have invited the VFW to join us! So, if you can come and indulge please do!
