FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Kim Boyd, Communications Phone: 1(800) 620-9511ext 6001 Email: info@disasterprogram.org Disaster & Humanitarian Services teams with the City of Port Arthur to Rebuild Hope after Harvey HOUSTON, Texas - Disaster & Humanitarian Services, a Houston-based 501(c)(3) non-governmental organization (DHS-NGO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Port Arthur to rebuild communities to be better, safer, more sustainable and resilient. The City and DHS-NGO will develop a holistic approach from planning to commercial and industrial redevelopment to public safety to the development of public policy to program development and evaluation. DHS-NGO is excited about the MOU and to be a part of the City of Port Arthur s team with an aim to rebuild hope where it has been damaged or lost, said Laurie A. Robinson, DHS-NGO s founder and board member. DHS-NGO is committed to maximizing community efforts through developing partnerships to provide small-scale construction projects, shelter, food aid, community awareness and educational opportunities to assist in the City s rebuilding effort, she said. DHS-NGO will be planning programs that will involve the community in rebuilding efforts and provide volunteer opportunities and activities to raise funds to assist with unmet needs through the rest of 2018 and in 2019. NO. 20306 07/03/2018 PDL PAGE 1 OF7 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) WITH DISASTER AND HUMANITARIAN SERVICES (DHS) FOR THE COLLABORATION AND COORDINATION OF OUTREACH EFFORTS IN RELATION TO HURRICANE HARVEY. WHEREAS, Hunicane Harvey was one of the most devastating storms in history to hit Po1i Arthur and the Gulf Coast region; and, WHEREAS, many Gulf Coast communities were devastated; homes and businesses destroyed, and individuals, families and businesses dislocated; and, WHEREAS, many individuals, families, businesses and local governments need help, expe1iise through coordination and collaborated effmis to assist them in recovering and rebuilding more resilient and sustainable communities; and, WHEREAS, many individuals impacted by Hurricane Harvey, especially those dislocated by the st01m, are suffering post traumatic mental stress and illness from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey; and, WHEREAS, rebuilding communities to be better, safer, more sustainable and resilient will require a holistic approach from planning to commercial and industrial redevelopment to public safety to the development of public policy to program development and evaluation; and, WHEREAS, Disaster and Humanitarian Service ("DHS") is a 501 (C)(3) nongovernmental agency ("NGO") that aims to rebuild hope where it has been damaged or lost. DHS works with those who are in need, those who were impacted by a disaster and/or humanitarian c1isis, and those who are underserved to recover, rebuild and restructure. DHS is committed to maximizing community efforts through developing partnerships to provide small-
