About Us The Capacity Building Institute is a program based at Community Council of Greater Dallas. Our grassroots initiative started in 2012 and moved to Community Council in 2018. Our primary focus is learning and development for individuals, teams, and organizations. We provide the knowledge base, systems, and tools to increase both capacity and sustainability. Additionally, we promote shared services and collaboration to strengthen the overall community. Emerging Leaders Forum Develops and expands the leadership capacity of rising NPO leaders. We must develop and nurture the talent pipeline in the social sector. Emerging Leaders Forum is a peer-to-peer experience that will develop and expand the capacity to analyze situations, communicate ideas, and influence policymakers. Community Council is the lead integrator for Dallas County poverty alleviation solutions. This includes Prevention, Stabilization, and Transitioning Out of Poverty. We seek to expand the capacity of our key referral partners, and other community-based organizations delivering critical services. If you want to go fast, go alone. Case Study: Incubating at Community Council In 2019, Community Council is selecting three Youth STEM and mentorship organizations for support in scaling their operations and building greater capacity to improve postsecondary readiness for low-income middle school and high school students. All students should graduate from high school ready for college, careers, and life, prepared to pursue the future of their choosing. By 2020, 65 percent of all jobs, and 92 percent of traditional STEM jobs, will require postsecondary education and training. College- and career-ready (CCR) graduates should be able to enter and succeed in entry-level postsecondary courses without the need for remediation. Case Study: Accelerating at Community Council Under a multi-year acceleration agreement, the Skill QUEST program is now based at Community Council, leveraging Dallas County Community Services Block Grant funding for accelerating its high-demand, middle skills workforce development program. On average, Skill QUEST participants move from $9,800 annual earnings to more than $45,000 annual earnings after successfully completing the program. This workforce intermediary approach and methodology is evidenced-based and Skill QUEST is a member of Texas network known as the Industrial Areas Foundation. A gold standard independent study highlights the pioneering work of the Project QUEST affiliate in San Antonio as the first scalable intervention in the nation to show sustained, statistically significant increases in participant s earnings (and employment) over time. Skill QUEST has lifted the working poor out of poverty into jobs that pay a family living wage, offer benefits and a career pathway, utilizing three key program elements: Sector-focused employment strategies (healthcare, automotive, IT) are a key component of this work. Individual coaching and wrap around services by the counseling staff ensures completion of courses and consistent follow-up with graduates after job placement Basic needs assistance (food, housing, transportation, childcare) helps participants focus on maintaining a B+ average in their coursework Middle skills training assistance ( including costs for tuition and textbooks ) while participants are enrolled in community college
Case Study: Collaborating at Community Council Achieve is collaborating with Community Council and leveraging the Community Services Block Grant funding for the development of interagency workforce solutions and social enterprises. Current & Pending Collaborative Projects Include: Disabled / Veterans Job Placement Social Enterprise Staffing Company Workforce LMS & Applicant Tracking System Sector Partnerships & Virtual Career Fair Achieve provides workforce development services, including job readiness training, job placement, and supported employment, to individuals with disabilities including veterans with disabilities.
Case Study: Innovating at Community Council Bryan s House is a Community Council strategic partner leveraging the Community Services Block Grant funding for delivery and integration of poverty alleviation services in Dallas County. The mission of Bryan s House is to respond to the needs of children and their families by providing medically-managed child care, respite care, and community-based, family-centered support services. Innovating & Scaling through Technology and Shared Services Bryan s House is the pilot agency for the Community Council s Data Analytics As A Service Offering which will be launched in Fall 2018. Leveraging Whole-Family Integrated Care Solutions Bryan s House will also provide emergency & direct assistance to qualifying families through funding available through the Dallas County Community Services Block Grant.
