Screenings are available for: Depression, Bi-Polar Disorder, Alcohol Abuse, Eating Disorders, Anxiety, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The screening is provided so that you may find out, in a few minutes, whether or not professional consultation would be helpful for you. Page 2 First Year Experience Center For more information, contact FYE @ 486-2170 CALCULATOR LOAN PROGRAM The First Year Experience Center has TI 83 Plus Calculators to loan out to students. Calculators are available on a first come, first serve basis. Calculators must be returned to the First Year Experience Center by the end of the semester in good condition. If students do not turn in the calculators, a possible fine will be assessed, and a registration hold will be placed on the student's record. This year will be the 11 th Anniversary of 9/11. The MLK event will be held at the flag pole between the Applied Science Building and the Watson Fine Arts Center. The Southwest Campus event will be held at the flag pole outside of Building 1 along Quintana Road. Both events will begin at 8:50am on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. Each event will consist of a respectful U.S. flag ceremony, a moment of silence, and remarks from our College s leaders. Please join us for this important event! Heritage Room 6:00 p.m. Student engagement is only one focus of Student Life; leisure and entertainment is another. Students having fun and enjoying themselves watching a movie helps provide the relaxation in between studying. Towards this end, Student Life is featuring The Avengers about when an unexpected enemy emerges who threatens global safety and security. Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency know as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. The team includes superheroes Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye and The Hulk. September 10. Home Coming King and Queen Applications will be available in Turbon Center room 110. September 12: Club Rush-Heritage Pavilion 11 am 1 pm Students are invited to attend this event to learn more about on campus student organizations. September 14: Student Organization Application Deadline. Both new and returning student organizations should pick up applications to initiate or renew their status as an active and officially recognized student organization. Movie: Walk-Out- Cafetorium 11 am 1 pm & 6 pm 8 pm Based on a true story, student activist and Mexican-American Paula Crisostomo realize the disparity in treatment of Hispanic students and stage a peaceful walkout in five East Los Angeles high schools in 1968. Along with the help of her teacher Sal Castro, Crisostomo brought the injustice of the public school system to the forefront during the heart of the Civil Rights movement of the 60s. Student Life will be providing popcorn and drinks.

FINANCIAL AID APPEALS INFORMATION SESSIONS For students seeking Federal Financial Aid, the Department of Education has requested all colleges to implement a Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy. According to policy, you may be put on suspension from Financial Aid due to having too many academic hours or low academic performance. If you are on suspension, you may submit a Financial Aid Appeal. Students on Financial Aid Suspension at St. Philip s College are required to attend a one-hour Financial Aid Information Session in order to receive an Appeal Packet. Students will learn more about the policy, and be provided tips and advice on submitting a strong appeal! The chapter will continue to discuss the various themes related to the Honors Topic, The Culture of Competition. Research presented will develop conclusions and determine what the chapter can do to address a need at the college or in the community. PTK Wednesdays. Every Wednesday of the month. Campus Wide. Members are encouraged to wear their PTK on this day to promote the chapter, strengthen fellowship, and encourage prospective students to ask questions about the organization. Welcome Back Staff & Faculty! September 4, 2012. The members will be visiting various buildings and handing out appreciation bags to the faculty and staff they come across. There is no specific location or time. They will however begin at 8am and probably be done by 12 pm at both MLK and SWC campus. Ice Cream Fundraiser. September 5, 2012. 10:00 am 2:00 pm. MLK Campus. Outside Welcome Center by the Veterans Monument. The chapter will be selling ice cream for $1.00. Member Meeting. September 5, 2012. 2:00 pm 3:00 pm. MLK Campus. CHP 120. The chapter is hosting their first member meeting of the semester. We will share our Calendar of Events for the entire semester. Our guest speaker and lunch sponsor is Mr. Danny Gonzalez, Chief San Antonio Fire Department. Everyone is welcome to attend. PTK Orientation. September 12, 2012. 1:00 pm 2:30 pm. MLK Campus. Heritage Room. Prospective members are invited to attend this orientation to learn the benefits of accepting membership into Phi Theta Kappa. Various universities will be on hand to share scholarship opportunities offered to PTK members. Student Appreciation Day. September 19, 2012. 2:00 pm 4:00 pm. MLK Campus. Outside Welcome Center by the Veterans Monument. As a way to welcome students back and motivate them to stay engaged and on track with their degree, the chapter will be giving away snow cones at no cost to the students. Officer Meeting. September 21, 2012. 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm. MLK Campus. CLR Study Room. Chapter officer team, members, and advisors will meet to plan for upcoming events. PTK Alumni Luncheon. September 28, 2012. 12:00 pm 2:00 pm. MLK Campus. CHP 120. The chapter is hosting an alumni luncheon. We will highlight alumni members, Where are they now presentation, ice breaker, discuss projects, yearbook order form, and present our calendar of events. Respite House Community Service. September 29, 2012. 9:00 am 1:00 pm. 605 Belknap. The chapter is providing service to the kids at the respite house. We are providing lunch and celebrating birthdays of the month.
