Dear Band Students and Parents, Carbondale Community High School Band Boosters marchingterriers.com The CCHS Marching Terriers and Band Boosters welcome all incoming freshmen, new students and their parents to the 2017 marching season. We also welcome back all returning marchers. We hope that the upcoming season will be an exciting and successful experience for all. Marching season will be here before you know it, and we want to let you know what to expect. Summer rehearsals will begin the last Tuesday in May. The band will rehearse on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00 p.m. beginning on May 30, 2017 and continuing until band camp. All band members are expected to attend if they are available. These rehearsals provide invaluable opportunities for skill building and team building and the students have fun, too! If transportation is a challenge, please contact president@marchingterriers.com and I will help coordinate rides for your student. Band Camp begins on 7/24/2017 and runs through 8/4/2017. Please see the Calendar for the exact details. All band members are expected to attend. For returning and new marchers -- enclosed you will find detailed information about summer band camp and several forms necessary for band participation and registration. PLEASE COMPLETE AND RETURN THESE FORMS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, BUT NO LATER THAN JUNE 30, 2017. The forms can be brought in by your student and deposited in the secure dropbox at the back of the CCHS band room, or you can bring the forms to the June 20th Orientation/Welcome Session. All new band members and parents/guardians should attend the 2017-018 Orientation/Welcome Session on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 6:15 p.m. in the CCHS band room. We will discuss band camp, general band procedures, fundraising, and the role of the band boosters. There will also be time to ask the questions you may have. Mr. Townsend will be present to unveil and describe the Fall 2017 field show. Samples of Marching Terrier apparel will be on display. Returning parents/guardians are also encouraged to attend this organizational meeting to prepare for the upcoming marching season. PARENTS/GUARDIANS You are invited to become a CCHS Band Booster member and to be involved with the Marching Terriers. Marching season is the busiest time for the band. Many hands are needed to help with performances and competitions. Please take the opportunity to help the CCHS Marching Terriers meet their full potential by volunteering as a Band Booster and parent volunteer. We have a mentoring program to help you find your niche and feel comfortable participating. The standard participation level is to participate on at least one committee and one fund raising event. On the Marching Terriers Registration & Apparel Order Form you will find a volunteer section listing areas where help is needed. Please take a few minutes to look over this form, mark areas where you would be willing to help. The band needs your support in order to have a successful year. If you have questions, please contact any Band Booster officer or Director Greg Townsend. Mr. Townsend can be contacted at CCHS 457-3371 ext. 240, or director@marchingterriers.com. Many of your questions can be answered, and forms downloaded, through the Marching Terriers web site (www.marchingterriers.com). We hope to see you at summer rehearsals and at our upcoming meetings. Carbondale Community High School Band Boosters marchingterriers.com Notes and Answers to Common Questions BAND CAMP NOTES Bring your instruments and supplies (reeds, valve oil, drumsticks, etc.)! Clothing should be suitable for rehearsals. Shorts, light-colored t-shirts, sunglasses and caps are appropriate. Absolutely no swimsuits. Because the marching fields are in the sun, tank tops are not recommended. Don t forget the sunscreen and insect repellant! You will need to wear comfortable shoes and socks for marching. You cannot march in sandals, flip-flops, or bare feet. All Honors Band students are required to attend Freshman Band Camp. Any upperclassmen wishing to volunteer to help are welcome. Bring your instruments! The cost of Full Band Camp is $130 per person. This cost will cover lunch each day, instructor fees, dry cleaning fees, shoe rental and one field show t- shirt. Students will be required to wear the show shirt under their uniforms during marching season. If you are unable to attend camp, you will still need to pay $50 for your dry cleaning fees, shoe rental and for your show shirt along with your sizes. There is an additional fee of $25 for all percussion members and an additional fee of $120 for all Guard members. If parents and siblings are interested in purchasing field show shirts, please indicate quantity and size on your order form and add $10.00 for each additional shirt. The ordering deadline for field show shirts is June 30th. PAYMENT FOR BAND CAMP is due on or before June 30 th. If a student would like to take the camp fees out of his/her band account, this can be done providing there are sufficient funds in the account. For account balances, check our website at www.marchingterriers.com. Registration can also be paid by credit card on our website by Please return your Marching Terriers Registration & Apparel Order Form and the Field Trip Permission Slip, including the medical information, with your payment. The Field Trip Permission Slip must be signed by both the student and a parent and must be returned regardless of whether or not you attend band camp. Payment and registration forms should be mailed to CCHS with the address provided on the form, emailed to treasurer@marchingterriers.com, or deposited in the secure dropbox in the CCHS band room. Uniforms During marching season, students are required to wear their field show t-shirt and some type of shorts under their uniform for each performance, parade or competition so that they can easily change into their uniform on the bus, parking lot, etc. Many students find it convenient to have a second show shirt to wear when they have multiple competitions on the same weekend. Students will be fitted for their marching band uniform and shoes during band camp. Students are required to purchase their own BLACK socks to go with their uniforms and must wear BLACK socks at every competition. Marching Terrier Apparel The Band Boosters will be taking orders for Marching Terrier jackets, sweatshirts, t-shirts, hoodies, polo shirts and other items. These are not required, but many students and parents enjoy having them. We will have these on display at the organizational meeting. Apparel can be ordered on the Registration & Apparel form. making a donation to your student s account.
