Panhellenic Spring Newsletter 2014 Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo

Hi Everyone I can t believe another quarter has come and gone First, a huge thank you goes out to our Special Events team, Jenny Jacobs and Mandy David, who worked tirelessly to plan our Hunger Games themed Greek Week. After intense competition, District Two ultimately stole the title of Greek Week Champions -- congratulations to Gamma Phi Beta, Zeta Beta Tau, Nu Alpha Kappa, and Alpha Gamma Rho Aside from Greek Week, our women have been enjoying our weekly Friday Philanthropy, formals at Avila Beach, and some downtime around the Rec Center pool we really are too lucky down here. Alpha Phi hosted a beautiful Red Dress Gala, Alpha Epsilon Phi received their hard-earned charter, and members of Sigma Kappa dressed as Disney princesses for one lucky little girl As 2014 Fall Recruitment approaches, every chapter is busy preparing for another large freshman class. In the first month, we have witnessed over 40 sign-ups; we anticipate a minimum of 800 women coming out in September We encourage all incoming students to get involved on campus. Please don t hesitate to contact our board members with any questions Good luck to the majority of our women who will be interning or studying abroad these next few months Be sure to follow our Instagram account, cpslo_pha, for updates about all our chapters and Greek news See you in the fall, danielle Letter from the President Danielle Durante Panhellenic President

Alpha Epsilon Phi Wow Spring quarter has been packed with exciting things for Alpha Epsilon Phi. We accomplished so many of our goals and we are so proud of how far we have come. Toward the beginning of May, we hosted our first annual philanthropy event, Ultimate Frisbee, where several fraternities competed to raise money for the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric AIDS foundation. Starting up a philanthropy has been a long term goal of ours and we are so happy to have finally achieved it. Another goal we accomplished was the chartering of our chapter of AEPhi. After about 7 years of working toward this goal, we are proud to finally call ourselves the Beta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Phi. It was so rewarding to receive national recognition for all of the hard work we've done. We could not ask for a better way to conclude our school year. Thank you to all who supported us along the way and to all who attended our chartering.

Alpha Chi Omega This quarter has been filled with unforgettable moments, from music festivals and camping trips, to sisterhoods such as our paddle boarding beach day in Avila, incredible philanthropies like our quarterly diaper drive, and of course one of our favorite events of the year, Greek Week Alpha Chi Omega placed second in the competition and everyone had a blast performing with their sisters On June 1st, Alpha Chi Omega hosted SLO Bowl in support of the San Luis Obispo Women s Shelter to end domestic violence. This is our largest philanthropic event, and we are honored to have the opportunity to donate to such an important cause. We also celebrated our chapter s 36th birthday this quarter. We reminisced on the great memories that we ve shared, and we are all looking forward to another fantastic year at Cal Poly

Alpha Omicron Pi Spring has been an amazing quarter for Alpha Omicron Pi. Our house had an incredible time competing in Greek Week. Team Gold got second place overall, and won first place in so many events throughout the week Our two annual philanthropy events were both huge successes Fourteen fraternity men competed against each other for the title of Mr. Fraternity in April. We also hosted the second annual Walk to Cure Arthritis on Cal Poly's campus. Over all this quarter we raised over $15,000 to help fight arthritis This quarter's socials have been all about our seniors. We had so much fun at our Vegas-themed senior exchange and Greek dinners This past month we celebrated our seniors with a formal evening, sharing stories and memories at our house. We are sad to say goodbye to our seniors, but we can't wait to continue to exceed the expectation this fall.

Alpha Phi Alpha Phi has had a busy and exciting spring quarter Several of our sisters went to Stagecoach and Coachella, and those of us who stayed in San Luis Obispo during those weekends had fun participating in Walk A Mile in Her Shoes, attending a Seal Team 6 and Army Chicks exchange, and winning the Lambda Cabana philanthropy volleyball tournament. Spring quarter is always Alpha Phi s favorite because we love the chance to participate in Greek Week. We had so much fun bonding with our Greek Week partners During May we hosted our biggest annual philanthropy event, Red Dress Gala. The proceeds raised from this event go directly to the Alpha Phi Foundation, which supports women s heart health. This year we raised over $20,000 It has been an amazing school year and we are all sad to leave our sisters for the summer, but we cannot wait to see what exciting changes Fall quarter brings.

Chi Omega Chi Omega had some amazing sisterhood events during our last quarter of the school year We had some great exchanges with themes such as When I Grow Up and Under the Sea. We also had a great time enjoying a bonfire, s mores, and the company of the wonderful Cal Poly Rugby Team at Avila Beach. Of course one of the most exciting events for all of the sororities and fraternities during Spring Quarter is Greek Week. We could not have asked for a better team Our sisters did an amazing job in all of the events Lastly, Spring Quarter was filled with lots of volunteering. Our sisters volunteered at Wildflower and supported the guys walking in their heels at Walk A Mile In Her Shoes. Our philanthropy, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, holds a very special place in our hearts and this quarter we had the opportunity to attend two wish-granting parties

Gamma Phi Beta This quarter Gamma Phi Beta has been busy with formal, sisterhood events such as Zumba on the beach, academics, and more On April 13th we held our annual philanthropy Flags for Frances, a capture the flag tournament benefitting Transitions Mental Health. We had so much fun coaching the different fraternities and sororities on campus We also had a blast participating in Greek Week, and are proud to announce that we are the 2014 Greek Week Champions Gamma Phi had a blast working with such incredible men and bringing home the victory in Lip Sync, Basketball, and the Donut Dash As Spring Quarter has come to a close, we've said goodbye to our graduating seniors and have started getting ready for summer and next fall. We look forward to recruitment and welcoming many new sisters into Gamma Phi Beta

Kappa Alpha Theta Throughout the quarter we had many fun sisterhoods, including paddle boarding at Lake Lopez, hiking to the Serenity Swing, Parent s Weekend, brunch at our house before formal and Senior Week During this Senior Week, the seniors had bucket list activities that they completed with the underclassmen of their choosing, and ended with a senior roast and bonfire at Avila Beach. Everyone had a ton of fun and checked off lots of things off their SLO bucket list. We re going to miss our seniors next year We ended the year with our Black and Gold Ball. Dinner was served then we danced the night away at the beautiful Green Gate Ranch. Awards were given out later that night that had been voted on previously, such as Most Likely To Rule The World and Most Spirited to name a couple. We re sad that Spring is over, but we can t wait for Recruitment and the Fall

Kappa Kappa Gamma Spring quarter meant having lots of time to give back to the community, support other Greeks, and bond with our sisters We started out with a fun America themed exchange, where we got to show off our patriotic spirit in Kappa red, white blue and blue. We also helped host our first local Reading is Key event at the Prado Day Center. We had so much fun supporting other philanthropies, participating in Miss Greek Universe, Iron Chef Delta Chi, Lambda Cabana, and working with our amazing Greek Week partners, Alpha Epsilon Pi. It wouldn t be Spring without quality time at the beach, and spending countless hours at Avila for some mid-quarter stress relief. We also had fun at our second annual Sapphire Ball. Our sisters dressed to the nines as we headed to a night of glitz and glam. As the quarter comes to a close, we can t wait to see what adventures lie ahead of us this summer

Sigma Kappa Sigma Kappa worked hard to stand out during their spring quarter at Cal Poly. One of the most anticipated events that the house took part in was Greek Week, in which all Greek chapters competed for various awards in a fun filled week of activities and fundraising. Our house won Most Valuable Sorority for getting the most victories in multiple events, one being flag football. The chapter loves getting the chance to get athletic and compete and is very proud of its sisters for working so hard throughout the entire week. The chapter kicked the quarter off with our exciting Frats at Bat philanthropy event to raise money for Alzheimer s disease research. The Sigma Kappa sisters coached each fraternity team and rooted them on with signs and cheers throughout the games. Sigma Kappa is looking forward to yet another successful year at Cal Poly and is anticipating their reunion in the Fall.

See you this fall Cal Poly Panhellenic
