Planning for a school-wide PSAT / SAT testing day, a college fair that has grown larger from last year, and college information sessions that will fill fast are all events which students and parents should be aware of. Seniors MUST sign up in the guidance office the day before the scheduled visit. While there are many opportunities to meet with schools, abuse of attending too many and skipping classes will be addressed. Colleges Visit SRA We have already scheduled almost 30 college information sessions to SRA in September and October! SAT School Day Offering OCTOBER Saint Raphael Academy will offer the opportunity for seniors (Class of 2019) to take the SAT test here in school. Wednesday, October 10th will be test day for all Saints students. All 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will be taking the PSAT, while seniors will be able to take the SATs during the school day rather than on Saturday. This will be at the same testing price and without the need to register through the College Board. SAT Test Prep with Catalyst We had a very successful SAT test prep Boot Camp session last year and looking to continue this opportunity. We cannot stress enough the importance of being prepared going into this high stakes test. Newly Posted in Bold Stonehill College All graduates from Diocese of Providence high schools will receive a minimum of a $10,000 (up to $25,000) merit scholarship. No separate application is necessary. Horatio Alger Association Criteria include: high school graduation, demonstrated critical financial need and US citizenship. Apply online August 1 October 25 at Www.scholars.horatioalger.org/scholarships/ Financial Aid Terms to Know: Financial Aid Money awarded based on need and availability of funds. Scholarship Money awarded based on a set of specified criteria (academic, need, involvement). Does not need to be repaid. Grant Money awarded usually based on need or merit. Does not have to be repaid. Loan Money borrowed from an organization such as a bank or financial institution. Must be repaid, possibly with interest. Work Study Money awarded in the form of part-time work to be performed on campus. FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid) Application that each student must fill out to be eligible for federal financial aid. Many colleges use this information in their awarding process as well. CSS Profile Form used by colleges and scholarship organizations to assist in awarding non-federal student aid funds. (coordinated through the College Board) Expected Family Contribution (EFC) Based on your filed tax returns, the number used to determine your aid eligibility. Page 4

Upcoming test or homework to get ready for? Mr. Janicki and National Honors Society members will be available on scheduled days to assist with college search and applications as well as academic support. Look for details soon. School Day SAT As mentioned, seniors will have the opportunity to take the SAT here at SRA on Wednesday, October 10th.
