Lasara High School November Scholarship Bulletin Scholarship Application Directions Applying for scholarships is the responsibility of the students (i.e. meeting deadlines, completing required paperwork, requesting transcripts, etc.) Application: The Lasara Bulletin is updated monthly to provide students with the criteria and online application links. Some applications are available only at the Counselor s Office, check with Mrs. McInnis or Ms. Gomez. Students may pick up a bulletin or a scholarship application before/after school or during lunch. Many College and University scholarships are available on the www.applytexas.org web site. Deadlines: Strictly adhered to by the scholarship committees. Transcript (LHS): Scholarships which require a transcript must be requested from the PIEMS s or Counselor s office at least two (2) days prior to the deadline. It is the responsibility of the student to request your official transcript (your grades from LHS). Late requests may not be processed in time. Essays: The essay(s); Run a spell check, check for grammatical errors, and have someone proofread it. Letters of Recommendation: It is the student s responsibility to ask teachers, counselors, administrators, and/or people in the community for a recommendation letter. Give your references no less than 5 days to write a quality letter. Provide information to your recommender listing your accomplishments. Resume: For help with creating a resume, please visit the counselor s office Scholarships applications, which are to be submitted to Mrs. McInnis or Ms. Gomez in the counselor s office must be received by due date. Deadlines are noted as either postmarked or received by dates. Students are responsible for mailing application by required deadlines unless otherwise noted in the instructions. Keep all the documents together to be mailed or submitted. In a large yellow envelope, place the application, official transcript, essay(s), resume, and letters of recommendation. Remember, each scholarship has its own requirements; late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

November Deadlines Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Deadline: November 1(Opens in September) Criteria: o Graduate from a US high school in Spring 2018 o Enroll in an accredited four-year college beginning in Fall 2019 o Earn a cumulative un-weighted GPA of 3.5 or above o Receive standardized test scores in the top 15%: SAT combined critical reading and math score of 1200 or above (must test by October 5, 2013) and/or ACT composite score of 26 or above (must test by September 21, 2013) o Demonstrate significant unmet financial need. These scholarships are designed to benefit students who have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement, and a devotion to community service. Criteria: o High school graduates who plan to enroll in an undergraduate program at an accredited college/university o Minimum GPA 3.0 o Scholarships are available for all major fields of study Scholarship Amount o 4 $10,000 national scholarships o 2 Target Scholarships within the community o 50 scholarships to Hispanic students majoring in business related studies $1,000-$5,000 Website: http://www.collegescholarships.org/scholarships/companies/target.htm National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Deadline: November 1, 2018 Description: Intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The students must have the qualities of dependability, leadership, service, and patriotism. The DAR consists of 2 parts, part 1 (personal) is worth 70% and part 2 (essay) is worth 30%. Criteria: o Demonstrate qualities of dependability, leadership, service and patriotism

Every year, the Texas Exes selects hundreds of entering freshmen and current UT students to receive Texas Exes Scholarships. Forty Acres Scholars Program- This program is the premier full-ride, merit-based scholarship at UT. This scholarship program offers a rich college experience that provides academic, leadership, and cultural opportunities within an intimate cohort of fellow scholars. Named Scholarships- Established by loyal alumni, friends and students of UT, named scholarships serve as memorials to loved ones, pay tribute to the University, or honor special interest groups. Each scholarship has its own criteria, according to the swishes of the donor. Chapter Scholarships- One of the most tangible ways that alumni stay connected to the University is through participation in their local Texas Exes chapter. Volunteers, spread out across more than 100 chapters, raise money for scholarships to support students from their local communities. Criteria: Students who are interested must apply for the Forty Acres Scholars Program. All applicants will automatically be considered for available Named and Chapter Scholarships. UT Austin Scholarships (Apply Texas) Scholarship Amount: Varies Criteria: Students who are interested in attending UT-AUSTIN University must apply for admissions and submit a scholarship application. Music Scholarships are based upon musical talent and potential as displayed through a music scholarship audition. Audition at A&M-Kingsville campus by contacting the Music Department. Criteria: Selection based leadership potential and character, scholastic record and ability, and financial need. The Terry Foundation Scholarship has been extended to cover 8 universities. You will be required to provide an academic letter of recommendation.
