Welcome to the 2017 Season of the Marching Rams! Welcome to the 2017-2018 Marching Rams! Whether you are a new or returning musician or family, please read and familiarize yourself with the information in this packet. This packet includes Band Camp guidelines, a Band Camp order form, a detailed camp schedule, and a season schedule. As always, please visit gemusic.org for the most up to date information. And so it begins Keys to a successful season: Marching Band days can long and sweaty, but in the end you be in awe of what we have accomplished together! In a few short months you will make new friends, get reacquainted with old ones, learn a pile of new music, refresh some old music, get the traditional band tan, eat some delicious food, hear some terrible jokes, have some sore muscles, support our football team, embody school spirit, and entertain our families and community. Just ask the seniors they will tell you that the days are long, but the years fly by. In order to make the most of our time together, we would ask that you do a few things: Be in attendance and on time. It doesn t matter what you play or how amazing you are. Marching band is the ultimate group activity. We can t move forward without you. Make good choices. Choose your words and actions carefully. Inside and outside of band. Keep things in perspective. What may seem like a big deal after a long day, may not after some rest and food. Keep your eye on the prize! Remember that you are important. It doesn t matter what you play or how many years you ve been in band, your directors believe that you are important, and want you to have a great experience. Do what we ask and give it your best! Tara Cappelletti, Director Andrew Packer, Director tara_cappelletti@glenbard.org andrew_packer@glenbard.org

2017 Band Camp Information: Attendance: Band Camp will run from Monday, July 31st through Friday August 4th. Daily attendance at camp is a mandatory requirement of the course. Each and every absence affects the group. We understand that life happens and that there will occasionally be unavoidable conflicts, but we ask that families please avoid scheduling doctor appointments, physical therapy, or other flexible things during camp/rehearsal hours. Students will not be excused for work. Please contact a director and fill out the absence form at gemusic.org as soon as possible if a student must miss an event. Students with unexcused absences from band camp, sectionals, gameday rehearsals, etc., will not be allowed to perform with the ensembles. All camp rehearsals will take place at Glenbard East and will occur regardless of weather conditions. What to Wear: To ensure comfort and safety, it is important that students are dressed appropriately. In order to safely participate students should wear: Comfortable, loose-fitting, school-appropriate clothing (t-shirts and shorts work best). Hat / Sunglasses to protect eyes from the sun Sunscreen Sunburns are painful. Athletic footwear. Flip flops/sandals may not be worn during band camp. Students that do not have appropriate footwear will be asked to wear their marching shoes for their own safety. Please make note of the themes on the daily schedule. Theme will be chosen by your leadership team and updated before camp starts. There will be rewards for the most spirited sections! What to bring: Water & snacks. There will be break times scheduled throughout the day. Instrument in working condition. Pencils. You ll need them outside so have a pocket or a plan. Lyre & flip folder. All students are required to have a lyre and flip folder. Students may not hold their music while they march. Students are free to choose the color and style that they find most comfortable. They can be purchased at any music store or online (even Amazon has them). Please have this item by the start of camp. Most students also find it is helpful to have large rubber bands to keep the pages from flying.

Meal Plan: Students should be sure to eat lunch and hydrate before camp each and every day. We know that good food goes a long way. We have arranged delicious dinners to be served during camp. Students may purchase the week of dinners for $28, or may choose to bring their own food. Meals cannot be purchased a la carte. Because our vendors are wonderful, most food allergies can be accommodated if arranged in advance. Students will have to decide if they will be participating in the meal plan mid-july. A google form will be sent out for responses. Tuesday: pasta (vegetarian), chicken, bread, salad, dessert & beverage Wednesday: Taco Bar (chicken/beef), Spanish rice, beans, chips & salsa, dessert & beverage. Vegetarian options can be arranged. Thursday: Pizza (vegetarian options available), fruit, salad dessert & beverage Friday: Hot dogs, veggie burgers, chips, fruit, dessert & beverage Uniforms: Students will be fitted for a marching band uniform during camp. Uniforms will be kept at school. Other than normal wear and tear, students will responsible for any missing pieces or excessive damage to their uniform. Our volunteer parents spend hours maintaining our uniforms so please treat these items with care. New students will need to purchase marching shoes. The cost for new marching shoes is $30. Students may also purchase gently used shoes for $10 if their size is available. Students can make this decision when they are fitted in August. Students that purchased shoes for the Lilac Parade do not need to purchase shoes again. School Instruments: Students that need a school instrument should come in during the instrument check out on Monday 7/31. School instruments are regularly maintained and will be distributed in working condition. Please treat these items with care, as students are responsible for damage to the instruments. Field trip: We will have an optional field trip during the week of camp. The location will be determined by the student leadership team in the upcoming weeks and detailed information will be sent over the summer Family Preview Performance: On Friday 8/4, we will host the Marching Rams Preview Performance in the stadium. This year we will be expanding the event to include incoming freshman and alumni. Additional information about this performance will be out in July. Please plan to come by, eat a hotdog, and see what we have accomplished in just a few days!

Special arrangements for students in clubs/athletics or with an unavoidable conflict will be explained during class. 2. Gameday Rehearsal: All marching band students are required to attend the Gameday Rehearsal from 2:40-4:00 PM on any performance Friday (see season schedule). Students involved in away athletic events should communicate any absences in advance. Students that are unexcused from gameday rehearsals may be asked not to perform.

How to stay informed: Important information will be communicated via e-mail using a service called Charms Office. If you need to update an e-mail address (parents and students) please visit: http://gemusic.org/charms/ Short term important reminders will be sent through an app called Remind. All students should have the app on their school ipad and should be sure they join the class to receive updates. Parents are welcome to join as well. To do this, you may choose to download the app or receive the reminders as text messages. Either way, instructions on joining the class can be found below: To join the 17-18 Marching Rams Class: Drumline/Pit and Color Guard should ALSO join their respective classes (in addition to the band remind) 2017-2018 Marching
