Upcoming Events Monday, October 2nd through Friday, October 13th - Senior Family Meetings Monday, October 2nd - Presentation on the Inspire Sheboygan County High School Co-op during Rocket Block Wednesday, October 11th - PSAT test, 7:45-11am, Room 102 Thursday, October 12th - A St. Norbert representative is available in the library during 2nd block starting at 10am. Wednesday, November 1st - A Cardinal Stritch representative is available in the library at 8am (during 1st block) Thursday, November 2nd - An Edgewood College representative is available in the library during Rocket Block. Wednesday, November 8th - A Michigan Tech representative is available in the library at 9:30 (2nd block) Tuesday, November 14th - A UW-Milwaukee representative is available in the library during Rocket Block Wednesday, November 15th - A Marian University representative is available in the library during 3rd block starting at 11:45am. Wisconsin Education Fairs Juniors and seniors - consider attending a nearby education fair! Over 100 representatives from various colleges, universities, trade schools and the military will be on hand to meet you and answer your questions. Here are some upcoming fairs: Marian University - Monday, October 16th from 9am to 11am Lakeland University - Thursday, October 19th from 9am to 11am If you would like to attend, register at www.gotocollegefairs.com to receive a barcode for check-in. Also, make a plan with your teachers to make up any missed work and call the office for attendance. The Counselor s Corner, continued... Page 4 High School Co-op Work Experience **On Monday, October 2nd, there will be an informational meeting about the High School Co-op Work Experience. This meeting will be held during Rocket Block in the Study Hall room (rm. 102).** Cooperative Education is a work based learning opportunity that links classroom instruction in Technology Education, Marketing Education, Family and Consumer Education, and Business and Information Technology Education with real world work experience in related occupations. The Co-op program provides on the job training and evaluation through carefully planned and supervised experiences that develop, improve, and/or refine occupational competencies required for a given career objective. These competencies include attitudes, skills, and knowledge. The co-op program through INSPIRE Sheboygan County is open to students ages 16-18 who are looking to explore the manufacturing or automotive career field. Here is a brief overview of the co-op program: Students must apply and interview for positions All co-ops are a minimum of 75 hours over 1 academic quarter Co-ops are currently offered 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters Students are paid $10/hour Students must be enrolled in a tech ed course Students receive 0.5 high school credit for successful completion of the co-op The co-op is pass/fail Students must be age 16-18 and provide their own transportation Important Dates October 2, Parent Meeting, The Vollrath Co-6:30-8:00 PM October 5, Parent Meeting, Bemis Manufacturing-6:30-8:00 PM November 3, Companies hire and contact students Approximately Nov 13, Co-op positions begin For participating companies, click on the link here: http://inspiresheboygancounty.org/participating-companies/ Apply Online! The Wisconsin Association of School Boards has set October 1-7, 2017 as Wisconsin School Board Week as a time to build awareness and understanding of the vital function an elected board of education plays in our communities.
