1 Police New Sergeant Jillyan Will On March 27th our newest Sergeant, Jillyan Will was sworn in. Jillyan began her law enforcement career in 2008 as a police officer with the Boca Raton, Florida Police Department. She has served as a New Albany Police officer since 2015. Prior to beginning her career in law enforcement, Jillyan earned her Bachelor s degree from the Ohio State University in 2005. Please join us in congratulating Jillyan! Sergeant Jillyan Will and Chief Greg Jones Ohio Collaborative Advisory Board This month the City of New Albany Police department received its initial certification from the Ohio Collaborative Advisory Board. The Collaborative is a recent state initiative intended to improve communitypolice relations across the state. The police department will have an on-site assessment from the Collaborative in order to attain the final certification. Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System (CAD/RMS) On March 6 th the police department switched to a new CAD/RMS system. The new system, from Tyler Technology, was purchased in 2016 and preparations to implement the new system have been underway for a year. The new system will improve the departments operations as the technological back bone of many of the department s functions. Dispatch Supervisor, Elizabeth Lybarger has worked persistently as the CAD/ RMS conversion project manager to ensure the quality and efficiency of the transition. Her work and the work of everyone involved will provide the department with efficiencies that will help improve the level of service to the community.
2 Police Citizen Police Academy In March the participants in the New Albany and Gahanna Police Departments Citizen Police Academy received instruction on how to prepare and react to active shooters, firearms familiarity and safety, 911 dispatching, crime scene investigations, and drug identification and awareness. The participants also participated in force on force scenarios using Simunition guns and received one on one instruction at the firing range. The participants performed very well and asked great questions. This year s class is our largest with a great mix of residents from both cities. Active Threat Training The department held two active shooter classes for local businesses this month and will be holding the same class for two other business next month. The demand for this type of training has increased and we are pleased that local business are choosing to prepare their employees.
3 Police Open Garage Doors As Spring is upon us, third shift officers are finding that residents are forgetting to close their garage doors at night. Officers are finding an average of three to four open garage doors per night. Residents are being reminded to close their garage doors at night to help prevent thefts. Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Officer Will and Kelly hosted another successful Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) course at the beginning of the month. Officer Kelly with R.A.D. students and a future student March Statistical Report As we work to fully implement the new CAD/RMS system, the department s monthly statistical report is temporarily unavailable. The implementation of the new system is a process that the department is working diligently to complete and the statistical report is anticipated to return in the department s April monthly report.
