The bill has now been sent to the President for final approval where it is expected to be signed into law. As many of you have already become aware, our Membership cards for 2015 have begun to be delivered. We hope that you will carry your cards with pride knowing you are a member of the premier professional Navy association. Unfortunately, with staff turnover we did not have historical documentation of previous membership card campaigns. We were unaware at Headquarters that Life Members previously had Life Member listed on their card. Rest assured that your membership status has not changed. On behalf of the entire staff, please accept our apology for this. Next year we will ensure this important notation is listed on the cards. The Membership Card Campaign is typically our most successful campaign of the year. We are thankful to those who have already made donations, and we hope that if you have not yet made a donation to us that you will consider doing so. We need your help now more than ever to ensure we can continue to provide services to you and future members of the Navy family. All donations are tax-deductible. Thank you to all of our members for your continued membership and commitment to the Navy and to Association of the United States Navy. None of our achievements would be possible without you.
Sincerely, Patrick McBride Director of Membership What are you waiting for? Register today! The Navy's Hidden Crisis It's Too Small-And Getting Smaller

For example, it would be very useful to extend the amphibious carrier USS Peleliu s life for ten years so that the ship remains available to deploy marines in a contingency. Additionally, using the ship s massive flight deck and hangers as a platform to test and deploy VSTOL and VTOL aircraft and UAVs, such as the Fire Scout, as well as new lasers and rail guns could create a powerful... You want to get a rail gun to the fight, it s got to fit on a DDG. How do we get it onto a destroyer, a very controlled platform? -- Vice Adm. William Hilarides By RICHARD R. BURGESS, Managing Editor, Seapower Magazine The commander of Naval Sea Systems Command said the Navy is looking forward to next year when it will demonstrate the electromagnetic rail gun at sea getting it wet but noted that now I ve got to fit it on a destroyer. Speaking Feb. 5 to an audience at the Naval Future Force Science & Technology Expo sponsored by the Office of Naval Research and the American Society of Naval Engineers, VADM William Hilarides addressed the main challenge of integrating electrical powerhungry new weapons on the Navy s warships: the weapons have to be sized to fit on a guided-missile destroyer (DDG). Veteran News Was it like the old war movies? Veterans share their stories of WWII
The crew and Veterans featured in VA s web series Living History: Battle of the Bulge. Photo by Robert Turtil, VA. By Megan Moloney, Department of Veteran Affairs It was the middle of the workday last fall when a colleague brought a gentleman to my office and introduced him to me as the past president of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. Retired U.S. Army Colonel Douglas Dillard sat down across from me and we spent some time chatting. For as large as the military can be, I find that it can also be a small world. Douglas Dillard had fought in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II, in Korea and Vietnam and retired as a colonel. So had my grandfather. He was Airborne and worked in intelligence. So did my husband. Read More.
