From the Director's Desk We are now more than one year into our 5 year plan to relocate the Mohler Center. I thought it a good time to give an update on the process. We completed Phase 1 of the project in the spring. In this phase, consultants completed market analysis and a feasibility study. Some important points of these studies are: largest population growth estimates in our primary area (Hershey) is in the 55+ category with largest percentage in the 65-74 age group. Similar growth trends are also expected in the secondary market which includes Lebanon County, Elizabethtown, Hummelstown, and parts of Harrisburg. Fastest growing segment of population (55+) are looking specifically for indoor walking, exercise, pools, and classroom space. Expected growth of both primary and secondary markets show a solid market for this proposed expansion, especially with the multi-generational opportunity. Following the findings of the study, the committee agreed to move into Phase 2 of the plan. In this phase, consultants studied the proposed area on Cocoa Ave to determine potential size of a new community center. It was determined that ample space is available to expand the center square footage as well as outdoor areas. Parking and storm water concerns were also addressed. Consultants will be completing phase 2 in the fall and will then move into building layout and cost analysis. We are following a project timeline and are right on track for a 2020 date. Of course much needs to happen between now and then, but the process is moving in the right direction. Exciting times are ahead for Mohler Center!
