LA SALLE UNIVERSITY S WEEKLY INFORMATION CIRCULAR September 11, 1992 To All Faculty: The Sheekey Writing Center in Olney 203 offers free individual tutorials and workshops to help La Salle students, whether they be incoming freshmen, soon-to-graduate seniors, or graduate students, with their writing, reading, and study skills. The Center's services address the varied tasks and types of papers that students are asked to write across the disciplines. In addition, the Center provides assistance with resumes and letters of application to professional schools. However, students can take advantage of the Center's services only if they know about them. If you would like your students to learn more about the Writing Center and its range of services by having someone from the Writing Center speak briefly to your class, please contact the Director of the Writing Center, Dr. Mary C. Robertson, at X1299 to make arrangements. Campus News is distributed weekly to foster communication and encourage information sharing among University departments. Articles submitted are the responsibility of their authors alone and do not imply an opinion on the part of or the Department of Mail and Duplicating Services.

L a Salle University Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19141 Urban Studies and Community Sendees Center TO: FROM: RE: The La Salle Community Stephen Kopec, Adult Learning Project Coordinator Urban Studies Center SECOND TIME AROUND FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM The Urban Studies Center will be implementing a new intergenerational literacy program partially funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education this Fall. The Second Time Around Family Literacy Program will provide basic skills and tutoring support for families headed by grandparents and caregivers other than parents, who live in West Oak Lane and whose children attend the Joseph Pennell School (located at Ogontz and Nedro Avenues). The program will be interviewing prospective families during the last two weeks in September and the program will begin in early October. Fifteen families will be served by this important project. Since this is a demonstration project with a one-year commitment to start, we would be receptive to input from La Salle Community members wishing to collaborate with us on an evaluative component for the program. Two La Salle students have joined the program s staff at the Urban Center recently: Gina Mullen, a junior Social Work major; and Laura Loder, a sophomore and recipient of the La Salle Community Service Grant. We are very excited about this new program and welcome those in the La Salle Community who would be interested in working on the Second Time Around Family Literacy Program to call Stephen Kopec at the U rban Center, x1187. 215-951-1187
