Reflections April 2017 STUDENT NIGHT Thursday April 6, 2017 The purpose of this night is to give high school students a glimpse into the wonderful world of materials science. TOPIC: Additive Manufacturing: How Moog Uses It for Aerospace Applications SPEAKER: Jason Jones, Materials Engineer at Moog, Inc. Hailing from Syracuse, NY, Jason Jones earned his bachelor s degree in Materials Science & Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2011. A co-op position at Moog Blacksburg led to him joining Moog East Aurora after graduation, and since roughly 2013 Jason has been working in Moog s Additive Manufacturing arena. Jason s talk will touch on the different AM technologies, why Moog uses the ones that they do and for what, and then focus on the potential and the problems of laser powder bed technology. LOCATION: Holiday Inn Buffalo Airport 4600 Genesee Street, Cheektowaga, NY 14225 TIME: Social Hour 5:30 p.m. Dinner 6:30 p.m. Presentation will follow dinner COST: Members/Guests $25.00 Students, Parents Teachers No cost. Chapter Update Our next event will be Student s Night on April 6 th, at the Holiday Inn Airport. The guest speaker will be Jason Jones from Moog to speak about additive manufacturing, or 3-D printing, and how Moog uses it. If you know of high school seniors or juniors who have an interest in a career in materials or additive manufacturing, we would like to extend an invitation to join us! Even if you are simply interested in a presentation about 3-D printing, we would encourage you to attend and share your work/education experiences with the high school students in attendance!
