General Summary of Function/Purpose of Position The Electrician of E.C. Brooks is a multi-level facility. This position participates and oversees electrical work as required by law for construction, repair or remodeling projects. This is a senior level position responsible for the oversight of prisoner work crews.

Duty 1 General Summary: Percentage: 50 Supervises, reviews and approves the work of maintenance mechanic employees and prisoner work crews doing work on the electrical distribution system. Duty 2 Assigns and supervises prisoner work crews 50% of the time to perform this duty. Provides instruction and training in the proper methods and processes necessary to carry out electrician assignment. Reviews job performance by observing and critiquing work. General Summary: Percentage: 25 Develops, plans, estimates, coordinates and works on electrical maintenance work orders. Duty 3 Studies blueprints and schematics and determines methods, materials and equipment needed to complete assignments. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, junction, switch, and outlet boxes and switch boards. Splices wires by stripping insulation from wire leads, twisting, clamping and/or soldering leads together, applying insulating terminal caps and makes underground waterproof splices. Installs, repairs (disassembles, repairs, and reassembles), replaces and connects wires to plugs, switches, controls, light fixtures, appliances, motors, breaker panels and switch boards. Pulls wire through conduit. Tests installations to ensure continuity of the circuit and compatibility and for the safety of all components and affected personnel using test equipment such as an ohmmeter, ampmeter, voltmeter, oscilloscope or battery buzzer. Supervises prisoner work crews 50% of the time to perform this duty. General Summary: Percentage: 10 Develops, plans, estimates, coordinates and works on electrical projects. Duty 4 Serves as the electrician on-site at construction or remodeling projects. Develops, plans, and estimates for electrical projects, including determining time, equipment and human and material resources needed to complete the project. Supervises prisoner work crews 50% of the time to perform this duty. General Summary: Percentage: 8 Maintains records related to the electrical work and practices. Maintains records on equipment status and maintenance. Updates blueprints and schematics so that the prints and schematics are always current. Determines materials needed for most frequently occurring repair work, prepares requisitions,
Duty 5 and monitors inventory. Prepares written reports on ongoing projects and on the condition of machinery. General Summary: Percentage: 7 Reviews the facility for electrical distribution system condition and takes required corrective action. Regularly inspects and evaluates electrical and electronics equipment to ensure that it operates efficiently and safely. Follows recommended maintenance schedule for cleaning and lubricating equipment. 16. On routine projects how to best maintain, install, operate and repair the electrical distribution system and electrical equipment. All departments of the Facilities are affected. 17. What are the minimum education and experience qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of this position. EDUCATION: Education typically acquired through completion of high school. EXPERIENCE: Electrician Licensed 10 One year of electrical trade experience equivalent to an Electrician Licensed 9. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of principles of electricity, electrical codes; standard methods, materials, tools, equipment of electrical trade; of electrical devices such as controls, switches, starters, transformers, motors, panel boards; of potential occupational hazards. Skilled in the use of tools, installation of electrical devices, diagnosing the cause of electrical breakdowns, repairing/adjusting electrical devices. Ability to interpret & apply blueprints, schematics, maintenance manuals & assembly instructions; to study & comprehend new technology, make mathematical computations, work from ladders, scaffolds, hydraulic towers or in tunnels and crawl spaces. Ability to train and instruct others, assign work to work crews, prioritize and evaluate the work of others, organize and coordinate the work of the unit.
