Share this: President's Perspective Running the Marathon for IHP President Bellack talks about her recent trip to Arizona to meet MGH Institute alumni and friends in her monthly column. 1st Avenue Several Faculty Present at the 2013 APTA Combined Sections Meeting For the third consecutive year, members of the greater MGH Institute community will raise money for the school and run the Boston Marathon, courtesy of the John Hancock Non- Profit Program. Clinical Assistant Professor Stephanie Jones is flanked by 2ndyear DPT students Jacob Ross, left, and Eric Hanyak. Several faculty presented papers, posters, and talks during this month's American Physical Therapy Association's Combined Sectional Meeting held in San Diego. The APTA's Educational Section also announced that Dr. Leslie Portney, Dean of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, former PT Department Chair, and a recognized leader in PT education, was chosen to give the prestigious Pauline Cerasoli Lecture at CSM in February, 2014. Barbara Adams, Long-Time PT Supporter, Dies Barbara Adams, a long-time supporter of the Department of Physical Therapy, passed away on January 8, at the age of 91. Ms. Adams was one of the MGH Institute s earliest supporters, making her first gift in 1978 just a year after the school was formed. Intensely Healthy Professionals Program It s still time to jump start your New Year s fitness goals and reduce stress by attending the Intensely Healthy Professionals program on Mondays this semester at 5:30 p.m. in Building 36, Room 315. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to any or all of the classes. Foam Rolling is February 4, Proper Weight-Lifting Form is February 11, Flexibility is February 25, and Wrap-Up Day is March 4. Prizes will be awarded to those who log the most fitness points during February. Please bring exercise clothes, a yoga mat, water, and a towel. Register or pick up a packet outside of Building 36, Room 257. New Help Desk Ticket System for Web Projects The Office of Communications and Marketing is now asking people who have any projects, updates, edits or issues regarding the Web site to submit a Help Desk ticket. Please select Web site as the Help Topic on the ticket. The documentary film After Words will be shown Sunday, March 3, starting at 3 p.m. at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge. It features famed neurologist/author Oliver Sacks, actress Julie Harris, musician Bobby McFerrin, and many others whose lives have been touched by aphasia. It also includes interviews with several of the IHP s Aphasia Center clients, as well as CSD Associate Chair Marjorie Nicholas. A panel featuring director Vincent Straggas, and producers Jerome Kaplan and Ellayne Ganzfried, will discuss the film. View the trailer. A Call for New IHP Musicians Trivia Tuesdays: Debuting Tomorrow on I-TV Do you like to play an instrument or sing? Then you should consider joining the IHP Musicians, a student group comprised of members from all IHP programs that performs for patients in health care centers. During February, a weekly trivia contest is coming to I-TV. Keep your eyes peeled for a question that will appear campus-wide during Tuesday's school hours, starting tomorrow. The first student each week to email the correct response to DailyNews@mghihp.edu will win a $25 Amazon gift card. Last semester, the musicians performed solos, duets, and group numbers of a variety of music genres. The group currently has a relationship with Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, where it will perform on March 3, and is hoping to add performances in Charlestown later this semester. Institute in the News Boston Globe January 28, 2013 Reported that Director of Research Programs Robert E. Hillman, PhD, CCC-SLP, was one of the featured guests at a Beverly Hills benefit held to raise awareness on voice issues. Dave Sullivan, the IHP s full-time security officer in Building 36, is starring in a new movie short that was filmed this past fall. The film, Memories For Sale, is expected to have its world premiere in his home town of Lowell this spring, but in the meantime you can check out the trailer where he displays his theatrical chops. February 27 28: Student Engagement and Philanthropy Days As part of a nationwide, first-ever effort launched by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education Affiliated Student Advancement Programs, the Institute will host Student Engagement and Philanthropy Days on Wednesday, February 27, and Thursday, February 28, 2013. The Institute will be joining forces with institutions of higher education and student groups to organize events and activities aimed to enhance awareness and engagement of students in higher education advancement.
