The Positive Ageing Awards The Positive Ageing Awards are held to recognise and celebrate the many individuals, groups and organisations that contribute to the health and wellbeing of our older population. Anyone can be nominated for an award and the nomination process is free. Nomination forms can be downloaded, emailed or posted to you. So let s get this party started and revel in the lives and experiences of our greatest assets - the wise, wonderful, inspiring and diverse champions committed to the lives of older Australians. Award Categories COMMUNITY SECTOR, SENIOR VOLUNTEER AWARD INTERGENERATIONAL AWARD (2 categories) AGE FRIENDLY COMMUNITY AWARD SENIORS ADVOCATE AWARD TRANSPORT SERVICES AWARD (Individual and group award)
Senior Volunteer Award Recognises outstanding voluntary or unpaid work by a senior serving the community. This includes contributions by a senior involved in: Voluntary or unpaid work Leadership Working with service organisations Serving on committees Art, education, music or sport Selection Criteria Nominations will be assessed against how the nominee: (a) Has demonstrated excellence in her/his field (b) Has promoted a positive view of seniors and ageing (c) Has helped the community to address issues and challenges that directly affect seniors Proudly sponsored by ActewAGL
Intergenerational Award Recognises inititives that bring older and young people together in partnership. There are two categories in this Award: 1. Recognises an outstanding person between the ages of 18 30 who works either in a voluntary or paid capacity with seniors 2. Recognises an outstanding person over the age of 60 who works either in a voluntary or paid capacity with young people Selection Criteria Nominations will be assessed against how the nominee: (a) Has demonstrated excellence in her or his field (b) Has demonstrated a positive link between generations (c) Has fostered a positive view of seniors and ageing
Age Friendly Community Award Recognises a community organisation which has demonstrated innovation and services involving seniors and enhancing opportunities for seniors to lead full and satisfying lives. Selection Criteria Nominations will be assessed against: (a) Demonstration of innovation or new ideas (b) The positive impact of the nominee s work, policy, program or activity (c) How the nominee s work i) creates awareness of seniors issues ii) improves the health or wellbeing of seniors iii) recognises diversity Proudly sponsored by Capital Chemist
Seniors Advocate Award Recognises outstanding commitment by a person who, in their professional capacity, advocates for seniors. This can encompass a broad spectrum of professionals in health, notfor-profit organisations, education, art, music or sport. Selection Criteria Nominations will be assessed against the following: (a) How her/his work has advanced seniors health, wellbeing, education or social situation (b) She/he has undertaken a significant project or initiative or research into seniors issues (c) She/he has achieved outstanding outcomes for seniors in government, a community organisation or business
Transport Services Award Recognises an outstanding commitment by a person OR group, in their professional capacity (community or public) has provided outstanding service to older people. Selection Criteria (a) Demonstrates a positive view of seniors (b) Relates well to seniors (c) Demonstrates appropriate communication skills when working with seniors (d) Demonstrates a helpful disposition (e) Displays exceptional patience and empathy of seniors Two awards: Individual and Group Proudly sponsored by Transport Canberra - Flexible Bus Service
Conditions of Entry for Awards 1. Eligibility All Categories Entrants must consent to being nominated. Unsuccessful past nominees may be nominated. Entrants must be available to attend the awards ceremony on Friday 24 March 2017 if they are selected as a finalist. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to nominate. No previous winners of the Seniors Week Ambassador Awards are eligible to be nominated. Nominations are open to All ACT residents. The definition of senior is as follows: Any person aged 60 years or over at the time of nomination. Any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander who is 50 years or over at the time of nomination. 2. Nomination form A nomination form must be completed and contain the contact details of the nominee, nominator (if applicable) and referee. 3. Judging A designated panel of judges will select finalists and one winner for each award: Nominations will be short-listed and then assessed by the panel. Judges reserve the right to accept or reject nominations for the awards or to refrain from presenting an award in one or more categories if the standard of
submissions is considered to be insufficient. The decision of the judges of the Positive Ageing Awards 2017 will at all times be binding and no correspondence will be entered into. Judges reserve the right to have the entry considered in an alternative award category if deemed, appropriate. All nomination material and information remains the property COTA ACT 4. Media and Promotions Entrants agree to participate in media interviews and photographic opportunities, where possible. These will be used to promote seniors interests and issues. COTA ACT reserves the right to contact the media about the nomination and to publish the entrant s photos and biographical details. If you or the person you nominated is selected as a finalist you or they will be required to sign a nominee declaration form. COTA ACT will ask finalists to complete this form at the appropriate time. Submit your nomination by 5pm, Friday 10 February 2017. How to Nominate Step 1 Choose the award category for which you wish to nominate. Step 2 Complete the required sections. Step 3 Ensure you have included personal and referee details. Step 4 Explain your achievements, or those of the person you are nominating, by addressing each criteria for the award. This should be no longer than 500 words. Step 5 Attach supporting documentation (maximum of four A4 pages). This may include newspaper articles, references or a resume. Step 6 Sign the declaration on the nomination form giving consent and agreeing to all conditions of entry.
