CIAS Retreat From 166 faculty and staff attendees, we received: 90 professional success stories ß These are being followed up on by Marketing and Communications (Kelly Sorenson) 56 challenges that CIAS is facing 54 suggestions for how we can move CIAS forwards CIAS Retreat Main themes emerging from Challenges and Suggestions : 1. Workload Equity 2. Recruitment & Marketing 3. Integration and Collaboration 4. Communication & Transparency 5. Scholarship & Research 4
1. Workload Equity We re establishing a working group to develop a model that accounts for the variety of considerations that apply to the way teaching happens in CIAS. The goal is to achieve some progress before the Self-Appraisal process begins this winter. Please consider reviewing your curriculum and teaching approaches for possible efficiencies. 2. Recruitment & Marketing New Event Coordinator coming on board soon Email us your news items, success stories, visiting speakers, awards, grants, alumni updates, exhibitions, commissions, etc. at: ciastellus@rit.edu 5
3. Integration and Collaboration a2ru consortium efforts are ongoing (contact is Susan Lakin) Outreach to colleagues in Engineering, Science, and MAGIC We re working on developing some mechanisms that can help facilitate and support cross-disciplinary activities within CIAS and between us and other colleges. 4. Communication & Transparency Reorganization of CIAS has given administrative chairs more access to information and discretion in school financial and HR affairs. A comprehensive upward evaluation will be in place by the end of this semester. The Dean s office is hosting regular Coffee Hours for open conversation. Associate Dean Chris Jackson is nearing completion of an complete overhaul of insidecias site! 6
5. Research & Scholarship Chris Jackson has been making great progress in this area in collaboration with Sponsored Research Services.. more in the second half of this meeting. Lastly Strategic Plan Once President Munson releases his revised version of the RIT Strategic Plan (this winter?) CIAS will begin readdressing ours. Please let me know if you re interested in participating in that conversation. 7
