PRESS RELEASE August 14, 2013 - The St. Mary s County Sheriff s Office Awards System is established for the purpose of improving Sheriff s Office operations and to provide recognition, through the awards system, of employee contributions through superior achievement and performance above and beyond what is expected in their current assignment. Meritorious Service Sgt. Richard McCoy As a seasoned, dedicated, and valuable member of BCI you were often sought out to handle the most complex and sensitive investigations. During your tenure in BCI, you investigated hundreds of cases with an overall closure rate of 94% and exemplified the word teamwork by mentoring new detectives and sacrificed personal commitments to help teammates. Your professionalism and work ethic has set a standard that all detectives should emulate for consistently achieving stellar results. A true leader and ambassador in law enforcement we hereby salute you and thank you for your meritorious service in the Bureau of Criminal Investigations. Commendation Cpl. Sarah Russell For superior performance, while investigating a robbery/shooting. You did an outstanding job managing a cross jurisdictional investigation, coordinating with numerous allied agencies, and flawlessly executed 13 search and seizure warrants and 6 court orders. As a result of your exemplary investigative skills, the homicide was closed by arrest with three suspects in custody and charged with various degrees of murder within three weeks.
Commendation Cpl. David Alexander For superior performance in March 2013, while investigating a burglary. Through exemplary investigative skills you identified 5 suspects and 7 additional related burglaries in St. Mary s County. As a result of your persistence, all 5 suspects were arrested and charged with numerous counts of burglary and theft. Charles County Sheriff s Office was able to close numerous related cases in their jurisdiction and the majority of stolen items were returned to the victim s thus ending a crime spree that was threatening the citizens of Southern Maryland.
