CERTIFICATES FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE FOR 2015 HER MAJESTY S LORD-LIEUTENANT'S CERTIFICATES The Lord-Lieutenants of the four Counties in the Association area present Certificates annually for good service to officers and members of Independent and Specialist Units of the Reserve Forces and to adults of the Sea Cadet Corps, Army Cadet Force and Air Training Corps. Those nominated must have at least 7 year's outstanding service and be serving on the day the recommendations is made.

STAFF SERGEANT D E JAKSTINS 37 SIGNAL REGIMENT SSgt Jakstins began his military career with the Band of 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers in Sep 1978. He enlisted as a Musician, specifically a Flautist, and served with the 2nd Battalion s Band and the St George s Band attaining the rank of Lance Corporal prior to leaving the regular Army in 1990. Upon leaving the regular Army, SSgt Jakstins enlisted into the Territorial Army as a musician with the Band of 34 th (Northern) Signal Regiment, who later became The Royal Signals (Northern) Band. As well as being an excellent Flautist he is also an accomplished Saxophone and Clarinetist He is a peripatetic music teacher with Durham Music Service. He has become a huge asset to the Royal Signals (Northern) Band and his exceptional instructional talent has helped develop countless young musicians over the years. In the mid 2000 s he gave up much of his own time to help tutor a local Cadet Force band, having a huge positive effect in their musical progression. More recently his influence has been utilised in the development of new initiatives for the Northern Band including a Woodwind Group and Flute Choir (leading the latter). On top of routine band business, and as the designated Quartermaster Sergeant (Technical), he is also responsible for the upkeep and management of the Band s Instrument Store, For devoted 25 years of loyal, unblemished service to the Territorial Army and the Army Reserve SSgt Jakstins is awarded the Lord Lieutenant s Certificate for Meritorious Service.

LANCE CORPORAL M SADIQ 162 REGIMENT, ROYAL LOGISTIC CORPS LCpl Sadiq has made an outstanding contribution to the growth of the Army Reserve. He is employed by this Sqn on a 3 day a week additional duties contract, as a recruiter. This has permitted him to focus his energies and aptitude to working with potential recruits, towards whom he has become a role model. He mentors and coaches professionally, with empathy, all those seeking to join the armed forces. LCpl Sadiq attends a number of Business Clubs, Job Centres, Youth Programme and local colleges where he presents the military opportunities and training on offer from the Regular & Reserve Army. LCpl Sadiq has demonstrated all of the attributes and abilities expected of a JNCO coupled to strong initiative, enterprise and leadership. He makes it his mission to ensure potential recruits are carefully nurtured throughout the recruiting process. He continues the role out of uniform by acting as an Ambassador for the reserves at every opportunity. He epitomises the values and standards of a member of the Armed Forces. His mannerism and maturity is well suited to working with young adults. He is able to motivate and enthuses individuals. LCpl Sadiq has also promoted and represented the Army Reserve to the local Muslim and other faith communities in the Middlesbrough and Stockton areas. He is also a member of the Armed Forces Muslim Association and has worked hard in promoting equality and diversity and promoting understanding and awareness. For his personal qualities towards the Army Reserve within and without the unit LCpl Sadiq is awarded the Lord Lieutenant s Certificate for Meritorious Service.

SERGEANT MAJOR INSTRUCTOR S ALLISON CLEVELAND ARMY CADET FORCE SMI Stewart Allison has been a member of Cleveland ACF for 17 years having joined Thornaby Detachment, B Company as a 13 year old cadet. As a cadet, his enthusiasm quickly saw him rise through the cadet ranks to Cadet Sgt Major. He always represented his Detachment, Company and County in sporting and military competitions and having excelled in the shot-put, he was national champion on more than one occasion On reaching cadet leaving age of leaving, SMI Allison had no hesitation in continuing with the ACF by becoming an adult volunteer; with the desire to give back what he had experienced from his time as a cadet. As expected, he quickly became a very successful Detachment Commander, gaining the respect of his cadets and peers, it was almost a continuation of his cadet career, encouraging his cadets to give their best and partake or at least attend every event. SMI Allison often put his own private life on hold for the good of his Detachment and Company. SMI Allison recently took on the role of Company Training SMI. He gave everything to the appointment and soon assumed sole responsibility for company training programme. It did not take him long to get the best out of the Training Group Commanders by assisting and guiding them to produce the best possible training for the cadets. SMI Allison is a trusted and well-respected member Army Cadet Force. His dedication to place the demands of the cadets and adults over his own personal needs in exemplary. It is for his selfless work within the cadet force and the example he sets to the youth members he is awarded the Lord Lieutenant s Certificate for Meritorious Service.

FLIGHT LIEUTENANT R M C MASON CENTRAL AND EAST YORKSHIRE WING, AIR TRAINING CORPS Flight Lieutenant Mason joined the Air Training Corps as a Civilian Instructor in 2001 at 266 (Stockton) Squadron. Her administrative skill set led her immediately into the role of squadron adjutant, and on 14 October 2002 she was commissioned into the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, remaining as adjutant at the Stockton Squadron,when she transferred into a similar role at 1869 (Middlesbrough) Squadron in 2006. On 3 March appointed as Officer Commanding of 405 (Darlington) Squadron, a post she still holds. Flight Lieutenant Mason has attended 16 Air Cadet camps both in the UK and overseas, she is very involved in several other Wing activities, which take up a huge amount of her spare time. She has performed in the role a tutor on Wing training courses, and she is particularly heavily involved in weapons training courses and range practices, being the only female Range Conducting Officer and Weapons Instructor in the Wing. Flight Lieutenant Mason has given selflessly of her time to the benefit of many cadets during the past fourteen years. Her work not only at squadron level but also with the wider Corps has greatly enhanced opportunities for many cadets. She is equally active in attending many community events with her cadets. In all cases this has been of great assistance to the organisers and the public who attend. She raised funds for many local and service charities. Flight Lieutenant Mason should be very proud of her service and commitment to young people. For her service to the Air Cadets and local community Flight Lieutenant Mason is awarded the Lord Lieutenant s Certificate for Meritorious Service.

HER MAJESTY S LORD-LIEUTENANT S CADETS FOR 2015 The Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire has approved the appointment of Lord-Lieutenant's Cadets to represent their Cadet Force and to assist him with his official duties for one year. The Cadets have been chosen by virtue of their outstanding performance, personal qualities and contribution to the aims and spirit of their respective Cadet Force. LEADING CADET LAUREN BEWICK SCC Lauren has been in the Sea Cadets for 4 years and has reached the cadet rank of Leading Cadet. Lauren lists this as her greatest achievement in the Cadets as she is the first Cadet in 10 years to attain this rank. Lauren is a very active member of her unit and participates fully in the life of the unit frequently making a positive contribution. She recently organized a Halloween Party for the members that raised funds towards the running of the unit. Lauren has completed courses in piping and marine engineering, in addition to extensive sail training which culminated with an expedition n the sail ship, TS Royalist. Currently Lauren is a Stockton Riverside College (Bede) studying a Leve 3 Extended Diploma in Public Service, which she hopes to continue at University. Part of her course required her to present to the 400 students on the RN and Cadets. Following education Lauren wishes to join either the Royal Navy or Police.

CADET COMPANY SERGEANT MAJOR JOSHUA HARRISON ACF Joshua has been in the ACF since the age of 13. He sees his attaining the rank of Cadet CSM as the culminating point of her service to date. Over this time Joshua has been very active within the Cadets and made some remarkable achievements, becoming a top 100 marksman within the ACF, becoming a Master Cadet, one of only 40 in the country, and attending camps in Germany and Cyprus. Joshua is currently awaiting for an invitation to St James Palace to receive his Duke of Edinburgh s Gold Award. Joshua is currently in Year 13 at Prior Pursglove College studying for A levels in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. He hopes to go to university next academic year to study Automotive Engineering. After that he is looking forward to a career in engineering, hopefully in the motor industry. He said a job in Formula 1 would be fantastic. CADET FLIGHT SERGEANT ALEXANDER BLICK ATC Alex has been an Air Cadet for 5 years at the Stockton Squadron. He has fully participated in every opportunity to maximize what he can gain as a Cadet. He recently completed the Mayan Trail for which he had to raise 3000 through his own effort. He said that was a lot of car washes! Alex is currently in the final stages of the selection process for receiving a flying scholarship with the Air Cadets. Currently Alex attends Middleborough College where he is studying for a Level 3 Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering. After completing his course Alex aspires to join the RAF as a Weapons Technician.

CADET FORCES The Sea Cadet Corps, Army Cadet Force and Air Training Corps are voluntary youth organisations sponsored and funded by Ministry of Defence. There are some 5,000 cadets and over 1,300 adult volunteers throughout the North East. The three Cadet Forces need adult men and women as leaders and potential officers. Military experience is not required, although it does help, and adults receive all the training they need. ARMY CADET FORCE MASTER CADET AWARDS The Master Cadet Course was introduced in 1989 to advance to the leadership, instructional and administrative abilities of post 4-star cadets. The course is held at Cadet Training Centre Frimley Park in Surrey. Passing the course makes the candidate eligible to be appointed as a Master Cadet. ARMY CADET FORCE FOUR STAR PROFICIENCY AWARDS Cadet activities are Army orientated and both male and female cadets are trained by means of the Cadet Syllabus, or Army Proficiency Certificate. The APC is completed in four stages and at each stage of completion Cadets are awarded a star badge to wear on their uniform. The syllabus contains subjects such as field craft, map reading, compass skills, shooting, range safety, care of weapons, first aid, lifesaving skills and the Duke of Edinburgh s Award Scheme at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. 4 Star Cadets also have to obtain an Essential of First Aid Certificate and must complete a 20-mile foot expedition. BTEC FIRST DIPLOMAS IN PUBLIC SERVICES Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) First Diplomas are administered by the Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation (CVQO), which is a registered charity, accredited by Edexcel, City & Guilds and the Institute of Leadership and Management, responsible for managing internationally recognised Vocational Awards for members of all of the Cadet Forces. CVQO is dedicated to helping both cadets and instructors of the cadet forces get ahead personally and professionally. The qualifications on offer have been designed to show employers and educators the wide range of skills that young people and adults learn in the Cadet Forces and mix theory and practical elements with an emphasis on leadership, teamwork, communications, problem solving and fitness. The First Diploma for cadets is equivalent to 4 GCSEs standard grades at A* to C levels, which are now being recognised by colleges and universities, and AIs can gain up to the equivalent of a Level 6 Graduateship Award. HER MAJESTY S LORD-LIEUTENANT'S CADETS The Lord-Lieutenants of Durham, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and North Yorkshire have approved the appointment of Lord-Lieutenant's Cadets to represent their Cadet Force and assist with Royal and other official duties for one year. One or two Cadets are selected from each of the three Cadet Forces in the County the Sea Cadet Corps, the Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps depending on the anticipated number of duties. The Cadets have been chosen by virtue of their outstanding performance as a cadet, personal qualities and contribution to their local communities and the aims and spirit of their respective Cadet Force.
