VFW POST 10262 Post meeting minutes October 12 th 2015 Joint Meeting: Commander Stoflet called a joint meeting to address the following areas; 1. National Recognition Awards 2. Mobility for Vets 3. Christmas Party Recognition Awards were passed out at the District #7 meeting for National Recognition of Our Post Auxiliary for their outstanding Voice of Democracy Program Activities. Also handed out for an outstanding Voice of Democracy Award for our Post and thanks go to Comrade Cahill. We, our post also received an award for Outstanding Community Services Activities designed to recognize posts that judiciously file their reports of all their post activities. Also receiving an award for outstanding Community Service Chairman Work and recognized was Comrade John Schultz, Post member, Past Post 10262 Commander, District #7 Commander and Current State of Wisconsin VFW Jr. Vice Commander. Mobility for Vets. Debbie Manthey visited the Mobility 4 Vets Wheelchair Shop in Waupaca and after being informed of their mission felt that it was important and entered the information into our post s latest quarterly newsletter. Electronic distribution of the newsletter was made and Comrade Schultz, post member who works and resides in Milwaukee as a State VA Service Officer was aware of a Milwaukee Vet in need of a Motorized Wheelchair. Comrade Schultz contacted a local Milwaukee VFW post and worked out arrangements to purchase and transport from Waupaca a wheelchair to Milwaukee for the Vet. Thanks to comrade Schultz and to Debby Manthey for their concern. Without their interest in helping veterans, this good deed would not have happened. The Christmas Party was discussed by Auxiliary member Sandy Kowalski. Bob s Catering will provide the Dinner with all of the usual fixings. DJ entertainment will be provided by Casey Gumney. Cans of food donations will again be accepted. The cost this year will be $15.00 per person. To help defray the cost, recycled cans are needed; the bar will be selling 10 liners and 50-50 Raffles. The post members were asked to take down the decorations and the Auxiliary will decorate. There will not be an ugly sweater contest this year. A gift exchange of $5.00-$10.00 is strictly voluntary and sign up with your wrapped gift as you come in. The Christmas Party is scheduled for December 12 th.. Meeting was called to order by Commander Stoflet: at 19:10 hrs. Opening Prayer Read by Chaplain Raschka. Charter was draped for: Comrades Ralph Meshak and James LaSage. Pledge of Allegiance -- Was recited by all. Guests - One David Lee Asc to observe a VFW meeting and Comrade John Schultz, State Jr. Vice Commander. RECITATION OF Section 230102 of the Congressional Charter: Was recited by all. Roll Call of Officers Present 10 Excused 0 Absent 3 Members Present 10 VFW Members Present 26

Membership Statistics, Applications, Transfers and Swearing In Of New Members Membership Stats: Sr. Vice Commander Zynda reported that we ended the year at 169 of 201 paid-up members or 84%. The District 7 is at 87.4%, Wis is 87% and National is 81%. Comrade Stoflet explained that membership status is calculated through the 30 th of June. July starts a new year. Membership Applications: Two. New Life Member Dan Garrett. Recommended for membership by Comrade Zynda and seconded by Comrade Tessmann. Motion Passed. Transfer from post 10301 life member John Berger Jr. Motion was made to accept for membership by Comrade Zynda and was seconded by Comrade Schultz. Motion passed. Comrade Garrett introduced himself and was then Sworn-in by Commander Stoflet. Submissions of Meeting Minutes of previous month - September Minutes were accepted as Published. Quartermaster Report Quartermaster Cline reported the following: Profit & Loss, Jan thru Sep 2015 total income is up 3.4 %: the expense/wages are up just over $7000.00 or 32%. Year to date balance sheet we are up $5800.00 over this period last year. The post has a Plus $31,000 in checking and a plus $33,000 in total checking and savings. He also mentioned the Post Assets. House Committee Chairman Gauthier explained the large increase in wages due to hiring for the post. There were no comments; Motion to Accept; Motion to accept the minutes was made by Comrade Tessmann and seconded by Comrade Halverson. Motion carried. SERVICE OFFICER REPORT. Comrade Mockler mentioned the Will for Veterans Program is still going in Wausau at the men of honor clubhouse. Post Members or Post Family Members in Distress. None mentioned Committee Reports : House Committee; Comrade Gauthier addressed the following; PA system update- Between Oct 1 st and 8 th, Al Tessmann and Jim Borski installed the speakers and wiring and the system is basically installed. Next week, we will need several individuals to learn how to use the system. The Bar Dishwasher was leaking and was discovered to leak only when the washer was in use. Difficult to find the leak. It was reported at the Monday meeting by Comrade Halverson the there was still water on the floor last Saturday when he cleaned. A letter of Appreciation was presented to Tim & Mary Colegrove along with a $200.00 gift Certificate for their support of our Post. They were also informed that the Kitchen Lease would remain the same as last year. The Building Security System was discussed. The system needs to be upgraded. More information on the discussion is in the recorded October House Committee Meeting Minutes. Rifle Squad & Adjutant: Comrade Strasser reported both Adj. and Rifle Squad news. Comrade Strasser thanked the Rifle Squad Members for their support at the Deceased Veterans Joseph Phillips and Ralph Meshak Funerals.

The Local Funeral Directors passed on to me the desires of most deceased Veteran s Families to have the Rifle Squad Members dine with them after the funeral services. The families always overestimate the number family & friends who may attend the funeral. Thanks to Comrades Mockler, Mugridge, Bredow and Zynda for posting the Colors for the District # 7 meeting. Arrangements for incinerating the Retired Flags we have collected have been made with Shuda Funeral Home for 10:00 hrs. on Wednesday. Roosevelt Elementary School in Plover has again invited our Plover VFW & Legion Members to have Veterans Day Lunch with the students between 11:30 & 12:30 on Veterans Day. At this point in time, the Principal is intending on having some Classes attend the Veterans Day Ceremony. Thank you letter was passed on to the post from the Bert Platta Family to be read; the letter was from King Veterans Home and thanking the Platta family for donating 7 Fishing Poles and 4 Tackle Boxes. Letter was received from Barry & Doris Hautala with a check for $50.00 given in memory and honor of WW11 Veteran Steve Klosno. The Veteran originally was from Hurley but lived in Mission Hills, Cal. Golf Outing. Comrade Zynda reported that he still did not have the final figures but looks like it will be around $11000 12000. It was decided that $7500 will be donated to the Fisher House. Scholarships. Comrade Zynda reported that applications have been distributed to SPASH, Pacelli and the Academy. The only change is the name change to Bert Platta Memorial Scholarship. They are due in by April 1 st. Application Blanks will be available at the Post. CITIZENSHIP & EDUCATION / YOUTH DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE:. VOD/Patriot Pen: Comrade Cahill reported that he started with 100 copies ea of the VOD/Patriots Pen applications. He has 20 VOD apps left so many are out in the schools. About 40 PP Apps are left. None have been received as of yet SCOUT OF THE YEAR: Comrade Cahill is working on this. TEACHER OF THE YEAR: Applications are out to the Roosevelt and Plover Whiting Elementary Schools. Comrade Cahill asked for two Volunteers from the post and needed two from the Auxiliary to help with the Judging. Comrades McKenna & Strasser Volunteered to help. MAP B Btry 1/120 has asked the post to again hold/host the Spaghetti Dinner fund raiser on Mar 19 th. Commander Stoflet explained to the new post members that our VFW Post adopted the local National Guard unit and we support them by hosting their fundraiser. Poppy Committee; Comrade Tessmann No report Surgeon; Comrade Worzalla, No report Communications from the Adjutant; Comrade Strasser included the report with the Rifle Squad report. Donations Committee Wreaths Across America was mentioned and Comrade Halverson recommended we donate the same as last year. 20 wreaths @ $15.00 ea. totaling $300.00. The motion was seconded by Comrade Mockler. Motion Passed

2100 hr. Prayer: Recited UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Commander Stoflet mentioned the District # 7 Meeting and thanked the Rifle Squad for the great Job of Posting the Colors and supporting the event. New Business. Good of the order. Commander Stoflet reminded the post members that Christmas Party Reservations are due in by Dec 1 st. The Portage County Allied Military Veterans Council talked about a proposed Veterans resource Center. Someone is going to look into how one started in Wausau and why. Hospice Care. Information was passed out by Heartland Hospice and they are looking for volunteers to work with the program. Online reporting was discussed. Post 10262 reported for the current Fiscal Year; Total Reports - 35, Total Members - 229, Total Hours 637, Total Miles 1,674. The importance of documenting all activities we as post members are involved in is very important. Please get the activities information to Commander Stoflet of the Adjutant. Comrade Strasser asked for someone to present a short Veterans Day Speech at the Plover Veterans Memorial on Veterans Day during the annual Veterans Day Ceremony.
