August 2011 Dear Students and Parents: The Educational Talent Search (ETS) Program is looking forward to the fall semester and beginning our 5th year of existence! Wow, time flies when you are having fun. As we continue to grow and learn new things from our past experiences, we are implementing new policies for student behavior, travel and participation requirements. We are also streamlining our travel forms process by completing them on a yearly basis versus every trip. We are doing everything we can to be eco-friendly. We ask that everyone complete ALL of the Travel Forms that are included with this newsletter, and return them in the pre-paid envelope that we have provided for you. As we receive the returned travel forms, you can either come up to our office at UTA in Carlisle Hall to claim your prize or you may pick it up at your school in the Talent Search office. Therefore make sure you get ALL of your Travel Forms completed and sent back to our office for our trips and events that we will have throughout the year. You will only have to complete these documents 1 time for the ENTIRE year, so please do so at this time. We also ask you to be patient during our transition, as we experience changes in staff and program services. We have recently received a new grant for the program which entitles 1000 7th grade students to be in the program. We are in the process of getting the locations of our new offices. In addition, our new grant will provide services that include financial literacy workshops to ensure our students understand the importance of being financially stable, career exploration opportunities, tutoring programs to ensure the students academic success and much more. Please join us for our Parent/Student Orientation on Saturday, September 10th for more information. MINIMUM NUMBER OF CONTACTS HAS CHANGED!! 7-10th grades required minimum of 6 contacts per year 11th grade required minimum of 8 contacts per year grade required minimum of 10 contacts per year If you are unable to attend an activity or event, it is still YOUR responsibility to schedule an appointment with your advisor to meet your contact requirements. Students in good standing receive fee waivers, attend campus trips, and continue to receive valuable academic advising until graduating from high school. Students who fully participate in the program also have higher success rates of entering college immediately after high school. Please review the enclosed calendar and register for EACH event that you would like to attend. For your convenience, you may email, send a message on Facebook or call us to register!!
