PURPOSE: Detachment Meeting DATE: 20 December 2016 TIME: 1930 LOCATION: American Legion Post #208, 225 Old Sulphur Springs Rd., Ballwin, MO 63021 Opening Ceremony Commandant Jerry Gerling called the meeting to order at 1930 and the Sgt.-at-Arms secured the quarters. The Sgt.-at-Arms reported that all present were in good standing. The Sgt.-at-Arms posted the Colors and led the Detachment in the Pledge of Allegiance. Back-up Chaplain Carl Ramsey offered a prayer. The Sgt.-at-Arms declared the meeting open for official business. Roll Call of Officers All Officers were present or accounted for. Guests Pvt. Tyler Gerling, USMC, was a guest of Commandant Jerry Gerling. Pvt. Gerling, who recently graduated from Marine Corps boot camp, provided insight on today s Marine Corps recruit training and held a question and answer period after his talk. Adjutant Report Adjutant Dennis Simpson reported that copies of the minutes from the 18 October 2016 meeting were posted at the meeting entrance and posted on the Detachment website. Motion made by Dennis Simpson and seconded by Mike Cicchese to forgo the formal reading of the minutes and to accept the minutes as posted. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote. Correspondence Three items of correspondence were reported by Adjutant/Paymaster Dennis Simpson: Donor acknowledgement letter from the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Donor acknowledgement letter from the FOCUS Marines Foundation Donor acknowledgement letter from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. Report of Paymaster Paymaster Dennis Simpson read the Detachment Financial report for the period ending 30 November 2016. Motion made by Jack Bickerton and seconded by Ed Rau to accept his report as read, subject to audit. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote. Chaplain Report Jack Bickerton reported that Detachment member Ted Eberley is at home recovering from his recent illness. Report of Officers Commandant Commandant Jerry Gerling thanked all volunteers who assisted with the November collections. Sr. Vice-Commandant SVC Lyle McFarlin reported that Edward D. Jones & Co provided calendars and a water cooler to the Detachment during the November collections. The Detachment donated that water cooler to 3/23 Marines Reserve Bn. Benevolent Committee Report of Standing Committees Report of Special Committees Toys for Tots Committee Jack Bickerton provided a detailed report of the Toys for Tots program. Thirteen Detachment members and two MCLA members volunteered for Toys for Tots. More than 400 boxes at 258 locations were collected. Other organizations that provided volunteers, funds and/or material support for the Detachment s Toys for Tots campaign included: South St. Louis Detachment #183, Marine Corps League Baxter Gardens Brinkman Construction Semper Fi Society of St. Louis Unfinished Business Dennis Simpson reported that the updated Detachment By-Laws have been forwarded to the Department of Missouri Judge Advocate for review and approval. New Business s Good of the League Frank Kekeisen reported that donations are being accepted via the Toys for Tots website. Dennis Simpson reported that FOCUS Marines Foundation asked if they could share the Detachment s storage space in return for paying half of the monthly storage cost. Jack Bickerton made a motion to allow FOCUS Marines Foundation to share the Detachment s storage space and pay for half of the monthly storage cost. Elliot Glassman seconded the motion. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote. Dennis Simpson discussed the forming of teams or clubs within the Detachment, such as a shooting competition team, a bowling team, a fishing team, or other team or hobby of interest. In return for forming a team, the Detachment would be willing to pay reasonable league and/or tournament fees providing the team is made up primarily of Detachment members and the team members wear the red Detachment polo shirt while competing if practical. Dennis Simpson offered to explore a pistol competition team. Anyone else wanting to form a team should contact Dennis Simpson for details. Announcements Carl Ramsey announced that this date is the 75 th anniversary of the battle for Wake Island. Pvt George Phillips Detachment Page 4
Closing Ceremony Respects paid to deceased members and area Marines. The Sgt.-at-Arms retired the Colors. The Chaplain led the Detachment in prayer. The Sr. Vice-Commandant performed his duties. The Sgt.-at- Arms declared the meeting closed until 17 January 2016. The Commandant officially adjourned the meeting at 2025. Total member attendance was 28.
