Memorial Hospital of South Bend Executive Director, Cardiovascular Services 2 Organization Overview Memorial Hospital of South Bend Memorial Hospital of South Bend is a community-owned, not-for-profit corporation based in South Bend, Indiana. For more than 100 years, Memorial Hospital of South Bend has provided high-quality health care to St. Joseph County and surrounding communities. Memorial Hospital provides the highest level of newborn and pediatric care, cancer care, trauma care, surgical care and rehabilitation care in the region. Recognized as a leader in St. Joseph County for health and well-being services, the hospital is governed by volunteer representatives of the community guided by a mission to improve the quality of life for the people of our community. Founded in a converted home in 1894 as Epworth Hospital and Training School, the hospital quickly outgrew its residence. A four-story, 50-bed facility opened in 1901. Epworth Hospital continued to expand, and in 1954 it was renamed Memorial Hospital of South Bend and operated under parent company Memorial Health System, Inc., which included Memorial Hospital, Memorial Health Foundation, Memorial Home Care, and Memorial Medical Group. In March 2011, Memorial Hospital and Elkhart General announced a merger. That same year, Memorial Hospital purchased the inpatient assets of Madison Center, a local mental health facility. In 2012, it was announced that the new name of the combined health system would be Beacon Health System. Today, Memorial Hospital of South Bend operates 474-beds and is a designated Level II trauma center with net revenue over $500 million. Clinical services include outpatient surgery, family residency program, heart and vascular, cancer, rehabilitation, sleep disorder, sports medicine, radiology, bariatrics, occupational health, clinical research, primary physician care from the providers of Beacon Medical Group, urgent care from MedPoint Urgent Care Centers, and specialized pediatric care from Beacon Children's Hospital, the region's only children's hospital. The hospital also provides patient and family support services, community outreach, and imaging services. Memorial Hospital places a large significance on innovation.
