Fictitious EPSRC Grant Call Write a proposal to an EPSRC strategic call for using medical technologies, including imaging, to improve the understanding, diagnosis, management or treatment of dementia. Maximum budget is 750k (excluding 'allocated' academic staff costs) and you can assume that it costs 40k to employ a postdoctoral research assistant for a year.

Reviewing Grants will be available for review from approx. 09:15 Look out for an email with a link Download the Reviewer Assignment sheet You will each be assigned 2 grants to review Download the two grants you have been assigned to review Complete a reviewer form for each of them Look at any other grants you have time to look at Meet in your Grant Groups at 10:30 Complete a group ranking form Submit all forms to the front of the stage by 11:00
Mock Grant Panel Each member assigned four grants to review, two as lead two as second reviewer Each group will have 12 minutes with the panel 5 mins slide presentation (time enforced) 7 mins panel questions Drawing from student reviews as well as panel member reviews After lunch panel will discuss and finalize the grant ranking
Final Remarks Make sure you have internet access to download the grants (eduroam or guest WiFi code) Recommend division of labour for the grant components But make sure you create a coherent final product Consider asking someone naïve to read your lay summary (e.g., email it to a relative and ask them what the project is) Have everyone proof read the final grant!
