The movie is currently being voted on (through Edmodo) and we will have the results midway through next week. The movie is shown in the Commons and is free for all students, and concessions will be sold. Students are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on. Parent Possible group meets the third Thursday of every month for connecting, collaborating, and improving the personalized learning experience. The meeting dates are January 17, February 21, March 21, April 18 and May 16 from 12:00-12:30 and 6:00-6:30 in a Mazzuchelli sixth grade classroom. Parent Academy #3 - Supporting Your Child's Growth in Personalized Learning with Student Showcase on February 26 from 6:00-7:30 in the Wahlert cafeteria. Battle of the Books Create your team. Read the books. Let the battles begin! It's time to start thinking about Battle of the Books. Students can sign up their team of 2-5 members with Mrs. Gonner in the library any time. There are 10 books per grade level to read for the battle. The Mazzuchelli school battles to determine which team moves on to the District battle will be April 15th for 6th grade, April 16th for 7th grade, and April 17th for the 8th grade. The school battle will take place in the library during exploratory time. The team that wins their grade level will move on to the District battle on Wednesday, May 7th at the Keystone building on Chaney. That battle usually starts at 9:30. Lego League Lego League Competition was a great success! We came away with the following awards: Astrobots (12257): 1st place in Core Values AND Honorable Mention for Robot Competition Lunar Legends (6827): 1st place in Robot Competition Space Force (29089) Honorable Mention in Project Dark Matter (12256): Runner up to GRAND CHAMPION!!! (2nd place in whole competition) We had two teams make it to the State Qualifier which will be in Ames, Iowa on January 20, 2019! The following two teams will be going to state: Dark Matter (12256) Apollo 10 (12255) Congratulations to ALL teams that participated! Spelling Bee Congratulations to Grant MisiagBeckler, Lilah Takes, Brendan Poirier, and Nick Klapatauskas who will represent Mazzuchelli at the Sectional Spelling Bee on Tuesday, January 8 at Loras College. Marley Pape is the alternate. These students achieved the highest scores on the preliminary qualifying test. Grant is our school champion because he had the highest score. The top spellers at the Sectional Bee will qualify for the Regional Spelling Bee at Loras College on Saturday, March 9, to compete for a trip to Washington, D.C. Christmas Trees Thanks to all the homebases who donated Christmas trees, decorations, or took the time to create their own masterpieces. All trees are beautiful and creative! The trees will be donated to the Dominican Sisters at Sinsinawa Mounds to creative a festive environment for them. The winning grade level homebases each received a candy cane treat.
