Our national leaders frequently make public appearances and members of the media and Congress often request this information; Financial information is required to accurately portray our tax-exempt status; The accuracy of your responses will ensure we maintain a high standard of public service and will encourage public support of our efforts. Media releases are sent from National Headquarters and must tell the correct Navy League story about what members are doing in their communities; Submission of an Annual Report is one of the requirements for a Council to receive quarterly rebates; Council Awards are based in part on a timely submission and content; o It is acceptable to add additional pages or other documentation to demonstrate the Council s fulfillment of the requirements for awards. o A separate scrapbook may also be submitted by March 31st, but is not required. Your Council s President, Treasurer, Contact, Membership, Retention, and Recruiting Chairs will have access to Council s rosters and reports via the Online Community (OLC). The UT NROTC color guard presents the colors at our fall dinner during UT NROTC Alumni Week activities. Color Guard All above units are invited to present the colors at one of our six Distinguished Speaker Series dinners. The Council provides 10 free dinners to the presenting color guard and half-price dinners to any additional guests the unit may wish to invite. Adopt-A-Cadet The Council also hosts students from the above units at our Distinguished Speaker Series dinners at a greatly reduced price. An Adopt-A-Cadet program whereby members and guests donate $10/cadet to offset the cost of hosting the cadets has been very successful in helping to cover the cost of the meals. It is not unusual to have 50 or more cadets at the dinners where they mingle with our membership, hear all manner of interesting and educational topics presented by outstanding speakers, and have a photo op with the speaker. They have in turn participated in the Council's Toys For Tots campaign by collecting toys and the VA Clinic's Holiday Gift Table by gathering basic items for the veterans. George T. Jones Scholarships All high school-age students in the above units are invited to apply for scholarships awarded by the Council in the spring of each year. The scholarships are available for students who are either college bound or intend to enter a trade/technical school post graduation. Recognition Activities of the units are often featured in the Council's award-winning Anchor newsletter and on our website and Facebook pages.
