WELCOME We are thrilled that you are considering Bishop McNamara as your high school of choice. As you consider your options for high school, we want to help you make a well informed decision. We hope that you will join us for a visit to experience the unique learning environment of McNamara. As soon as you walk through our doors you will notice a difference. Our school community is unique and we believe when you see what is inside, you will agree! As you spend time discovering what McNamara can be for you, we invite you to imagine yourself walking through our campus, learning in our classrooms, performing on our stage, or playing on our athletic fields. We hope that you will CHOOSE TO BE MORE!

EXPERIENCE SOMETHING MORE THAN HIGH SCHOOL FIND YOUR SPIRITUALITY While other schools may tout their traditions or the sheer number of students walking their hallways, it is the accepting nature of our close-knit student body which encourages individuality, the genuine love of our teachers that inspires self-confidence, the Catholicity of our culture which embeds true character, and the progressive vision of our leadership team that is transforming us into the most forward-thinking college prep school in Illinois which all combine to make Bishop McNamara so very different than anywhere else and so much more than high school. FROM EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN GIVEN MUCH, MUCH WILL BE DEMANDED; AND FROM THE ONE WHO HAS BEEN ENTRUSTED WITH MUCH, MUCH MORE WILL BE ASKED. LUKE 12:48 As a Catholic school that openly welcomes students and families of all faiths and backgrounds, we provide you with the time, encouragement and insight to kindle that innate spirituality lying within your heart, so that in good times and bad, wherever Life s winding road leads you, you can always rely on its eternal light, its steady warmth and its unerring direction. As a Diocesan high school we strive to instill this philosophy in our students so they practice it in all aspects of their daily lives. The curriculum and the co-curriculars are Christ-centered, meaning that Catholicism is integrated into every aspect of the McNamara experience. Each class participates in a minimum of one retreat, or day of prayer and reflection, during the academic year. Juniors and Seniors are provided with the opportunity to participate in a three day Kairos retreat in which the students spend time in prayerful reflection in an environment where a strong relationship with Jesus is encouraged. Bishop McNamara students are required to take four years of religion and attend all school Masses. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered to all students, faculty, and staff during Advent and Lent. The school day begins with prayer, as well as each individual class where students have the opportunity to offer personal intentions. Athletic teams engage in prayerful reflection or Mass before every sporting event. Current students, parents and alumni indicate that spiritual development is one of the key factors in choosing McNamara as their school of choice for high school.

CHOOSE TO BE MORE No matter how big or bold or brash your dream Broadway actress, pediatrician, meteorologist, WNBA star, school teacher, screenwriter, Mayor of Kankakee, entrepreneur our teachers will support you every hour of every day, methodically equipping you with the academic foundation, Christian values and outright guts to dare to dream of simply being more, no matter the naysayers, the critics or those who never had the courage to pursue their own dreams. COMMUNITY We are a community that welcomes all people. Students at McNamara come from many different places, backgrounds, and faith traditions. During their time here they are formed as one community that deeply values the diversity of each of its members. JUSTICE We believe that our faith in Jesus compels us to work for a more just and peaceful world. This commitment is reflected in our moral character. We strive to make decisions that respect our lives and the lives of others. SERVICE With so many opportunities available to our students we also ask that our students share their talents with the world, by assisting members of our community in need. Beginning as a freshman and throughout the duration of their high school career, students participate in the McNamara Christian Service Program. Through this service program McNamara students develop sensitivity to those different than themselves and gain a greater respect for the gift God has given them. LEADERSHIP At McNamara, students learn to be leaders in service of their peers, the community, and the world. Many of our Masses, retreats, and prayer experiences at McNamara are planned and executed by trained student leaders. Students take an active role in shaping their school and forming the faith of their peers. The McNamara Big Brother/Big Sister program trains selected upperclassmen to assist incoming freshman with common adolescent issues. During small group discussions and other special activities, the older students draw upon their experiences to initiate their younger peers into the McNamara culture of responsibility, integrity and respect.

GO TO A GREAT COLLEGE Our school leadership is fully committed to affording you and your family with the in-house resources, expert guidance, and continual classroom preparation you need to confidently apply to the college of your choice to include applying for aid and scholarships whether your heart is set on a local community college, a state school, an Ivy, a service academy, or a different school altogether. Bishop McNamara provides an academic environment which allows all students to be challenged and successful. The comprehensive curriculum is designed to prepare all students for college. Each student at Bishop McNamara has an individualized curriculum that allows them to achieve at the appropriate level within each subject area. All students have the opportunity to participate in the Academic Zero Hour daily. During this time our faculty is available to provide extra assistance and the Media Center/ Learning Center is also open for student use. Bishop McNamara offers its students one-on-one counseling in both guidance and college preparatory capacity. Our counseling department provides direction in college/university selection, discussion and selection of major and minor, assistance with the application process scholarship and financial aid searches, and may also serve as an advocate between the university and the student. McNamara graduates have graduated from or are currently attending the following: Augustana University Ball State Belmont University Benedictine University Boston College Bradley University Butler University Carthage College Concordia University DePaul University Florida Gulf Coast University Florida State Fontbonne University George Mason University Illinois State University Illinois Wesleyan University Knox College Lewis University Loyola University Marquette University Miami of Ohio Michigan State Northwestern University Ohio State Penn State Purdue University St. Ambrose University St. Joseph s Rensselaer St. Louis University Tulane University University of Dayton University of Illinois University of Iowa University of Notre Dame University of Rochester Virginia Tech Washington University West Point (USMA)

THINK BIG Managed class sizes that promote participation, animated student discussions that spill into the hallways, ever-available teachers, specialized staff, and young men and women who truly want to come to school each day these elements almost magically conspire here to create a daily learning environment where thinking big is embraced, and where new ideas, sometimes big ideas, come to life. At the heart of the McNamara learning environment is the bond between our teachers and our students. Everyone at McNamara is known by name and treated as an individual. In fact we keep our student to teacher ratio at or below 14-1. Our class sizes are limited to 20-25 students in any academic area. With smaller class sizes teachers know each students learning style and make instruction flexible and highly personalized. WE ARE EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THE ACADEMIC AND SPIRITUAL GROWTH OUR CHILDREN HAVE EXPERIENCED. BISHOP MCNAMARA MAKES A DIFFERENCE - WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO CHOOSE TO BE MORE! - ED AND LAURA JURKOVIC (EDDIE 11; LAUREN 13; LINDSEY 15; EVAN 17) Year after year, Bishop McNamara students performance on the ACT produces the highest ACT scores throughout our Kankakee County Area High Schools. Bishop McNamara seniors earn millions of dollars in combined college scholarship offers each year.

FEEL LIKE MORE THAN JUST ANOTHER STUDENT QUOTES FROM RECENT GRADUATES... Our teachers invest their time and their hearts in knowing The Real You because they understand that for you to truly become the very best student and the very best human being you can be, they themselves must be more than just a teacher in fact, they need to be a teacher-mentor-coachfriend-parent-confidante-sounding board-cheerleader, all rolled into one and at Bishop McNamara, thank God, our teachers are all these things and so much more. The Bishop McNamara faculty is a group of devoted teachers who strive to provide a challenging and innovative curriculum. They consider their work much more than a job; to them teaching is a fulfillment of the mission of Bishop McNamara. You will find teachers at McNamara accessible and encouraging, while providing the rigor needed to foster intellectual growth. They are compassionate and caring, while challenging their students to be their best. BISHOP MCNAMARA PROVIDED ME WITH THE OPPORTUNITIES TO EXCEL IN MY ACADEMICS, ATHLETICS, AND SPIRITUAL LIFE DURING HIGH SCHOOL. IT EQUIPPED ME WITH THE TOOLS NECESSARY TO BE SUCCESSFUL AT AN INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND BEYOND. MOST OF ALL, MCNAMARA BECAME MY SECOND HOME THROUGH ITS FAMILY AND FAITH-FILLED ATMOSPHERE, AND I KNOW THERE IS A PLACE I WILL ALWAYS BELONG AND BE WELCOMED BACK TO WITH OPEN ARMS. (JENNA, CLASS OF 2015) THE TEACHERS AT BISHOP MCNAMARA DO NOT SIMPLY TEACH FACTS AND FIGURES. THEY TEACH STUDENTS HOW TO SUCCEED BOTH IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM WHICH HELPED US LEARN HOW TO LIVE A FULFILLING, BALANCED LIFE. (KYLE, CLASS OF 2014) Bishop McNamara students are offered academic rigor within a college prep curriculum that includes AP & Dual Credit courses. I WOULD ENCOURAGE A STUDENT CONSIDERING ATTENDING MCNAMARA TO THINK ABOUT THEIR FUTURE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL. THE TEACHERS HERE CHALLENGED US TO DO OUR BEST. WHILE AT MCNAMARA I LEARNED LEADERSHIP, PATIENCE, AND KINDNESS IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM. I FEEL CONFIDENT THAT I LEFT HIGH SCHOOL PREPARED FOR THE REAL WORLD; FOR LIFE. (CAITLIN, CLASS OF 2013)

LEARN HOW We think that high school is as much about taking chances and occasionally falling as it is about academically preparing for college, so we loudly encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and do something unexpected, whether that s writing for The Blarney Stone, competing in Bass Fishing, or taking that scary-looking AP Physics course, because high school is about learning how how to take a chance, how to fall, how to stand back up, and ultimately, how to feel good about yourself no matter what. EXTRACURRICULAR AND LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES Nearly every student at Bishop McNamara is involved in something other than just classes. McNamara provides various activities tailored to the interests of the students. Involvement in extra-curricular activities is highly encouraged and is part of our comprehensive education plan. The following are the extra-curricular activities currently offered: ATHLETICS Athletics plays a vital role in the development of physical fitness, social development, as well as sound ethical and moral standards.
