This care will be provided within the scope of practice granted by the Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee. 1. Clinical Provide clinical management and treatment of patients in a Sydney LHD/NSW Health Pathology facility under your care, within the scope of practice granted by the Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee. Ensure detailed patient treatment plans are in place to support the timely management of patients. Ensure a high standard of clinical record documentation is maintained. This includes the completion of the patient s clinical records to reflect clinical decisions and the keeping of appropriate databases up-to-date. Provide a consultant service as required for patients of other senior medical staff. Participate in the on-call roster for your department as required.
Provide care to non-inpatients attending department ambulatory clinics as required. Be an active participant in the clinical activities in your Department. Adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice. Preparedness to participate in the provision of health services at a district level, if credentialed. Provide genetic diagnosis, investigation and risk assessment to patients and their families. Provide information about genetic disorders to patients, their families and the referring doctors. Order and interpret genetic tests. Provide supervision, education and guidance to genetic counsellors and genetic fellow. Provide a consultative service on genetic issues to a broad range of health professionals in hospital and the community Supervise the genetics database and provide statistics to NSW Ministry of Health as required. ParticipateTake part in teaching within the hospital and to general practitioners. Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to provide, information, risk assessment and counselling regarding genetic disorders. Knowledge of NSW guidelines and policies applicable to clinical genetics. Knowledge of genetics databases and clinical reporting systems. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and cooperatively with other staff. Strong interest in teaching and supervision of genetic counsellors Interest and/or experience in research as pertaining to clinical genetics 2. Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement Key Accountabilities : Comply with Sydney LHD/NSW Health Pathology clinical governance policies and programs. Participate in the facility quality improvement program. Ensure effective clinical handover processes in accordance with facility and Sydney LHD guidelines. Participate in the facility and / or Sydney LHD clinical governance requirements for ongoing maintenance of professional competence and clinical performance. Participation in peer review and other personal development activities consistent with the relevant specialist medical college requirements to maintain professional standards. Ensure compliance with the standards contained within the Australian Council on Health Care Standards Guidelines for Accreditation. 3. Education and Training Participation in teaching and training at all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education where required by your Head of Department or Service in accordance with the requirements of the NSW Clinical Education and Training Institute (CETI), Sydney LHD and NSW Ministry of Health policies; and, if applicable, the relevant specialist medical College vocational training program. Contribute to the education and training of other clinical staff as required by your Department or Service Head. Participate in Departmental training programs and any other training courses specified by facility and/or Sydney LHD/NSW Health Pathology management that will enhance personal development, skills and knowledge, and practice requirements. 4. Supervision Ensure supervision of junior medical staff (intern to postgraduate Fellow) in accordance with facility, Sydney LHD NSW Health Pathology, CETI, NSW Ministry of Health and relevant specialist medical College polices and guidelines. 5. Performance Management Participate in the Sydney LHD Performance Review and Management Program. Demonstrate clinical competency within the clinical privileges granted by the Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee. 6. Other Duties

Delivery of medical services within your Department to ensure the Department provides agreed service delivery and meets relevant performance benchmarks and expenditure and revenue targets. Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and genetic counsellors. Maintain up to date knowledge on genetics issues including availability of accredited DNA tests overseas and in Australia. Challenges/Problem Solving : Provide a service to a large population, including hospital on call, with a small team of genetics staff. Educate health care practitioners to ensure timely and appropriate referrals to the service. Decision Making : Clinical decision making will focus predominantly on risk estimation for patients and families at risk for genetic disorders, and when, and on whom, to order molecular tests. Selection Criteria : Staffing : Current registered medical practitioner or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and FRACP. Recognition, or eligible for recognition, as a specialist in clinical genetics under the Staff Specialist State Award.
