Scholarship Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. is a service organization of predominately African American college educated women. The Sorority was founded on the campus of Howard University in 1913 located in Washington D.C. The was chartered in 1933. Myra Davis Hemmings was the first president and one of the 22 Founders of The activities of the chapter are based upon our National Five Point Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness & Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness & Involvement. Zeta Upsilon City Wide Chapter was established in 1969 under the sponsorship of the. The following five universities make up the City-Wide chapter: Trinity University, Our Lady of the Lake University, University of the Incarnate Word, and Texas Lutheran University, Sequin. The second collegiate chapter in San Antonio, Upsilon Nu, was established on the campus of The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in 2013. The currently serves in an advisory capacity to both the Zeta Upsilon City-Wide and Upsilon Nu Chapters. CRITERIA Applicants are being considered for a scholarship from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and from the Myra Davis Hemming Resource Center (MDHRC). MDHRC is a center named after one of the 22 founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. The $1,000 Delta Scholarship will be awarded to an African American female applicant who meets the following: 1. A graduating high school senior with a grade point average of 2.5 (4.00 point grading system), 1.5 (3.00 point grading system), or a 75 grade point average or above. 2. Excels academically and displays leadership abilities in the classroom and community. 3. Provides proof of high school enrollment in the fall and/or spring sessions. (All applicants must reside in and attend schools within the Bexar County school districts).
