Barry Schafer Debbie Boyter On 4 June the newly elected Legion Officers for 2015/2016 were sworn in and have announced their commitment to growing and improving our Post. Thanks again to all of our dedicated Post 155 officers and members for your dedication and hard work over the past year. Over the last month our Post continued to bring in several new Legion, SAL, Auxiliary, and ALR members. Thanks to hard work on Rock s part we have received a couple of gifts from members that will help us complete improvements and support our many projects. The 4th of July is rapidly approaching and we will celebrate our country s birthday joining the VFW to match in the parade and conduct a flag ceremony at the gazebo just prior to the fireworks. On Saturday 20 June our Post hosted the first of three car shows (Vettes N Vets). Our north parking lot was decked out with 128 Corvettes entered in the show. Rock and I judged the member and non-member groups and I awarded the winners with the Commander s Trophy. What a great day. Our next car show is scheduled for Friday 17 July (MGs). There will be no SAL steak dinner in July and the next is scheduled for 1 August. We will have karaoke from 8-12 PM on 11 July. We are considering having karaoke every Saturday night. I m looking for your feedback. The ALR Thursday night cook outs will also continue every 4 th Thursday through September. The Annual Carmel American Legion Charity Golf Tournament and dinner and auctions this year will be held on Friday the 24 th of July at Brookshire Golf Course in Carmel. Over the last 23 years our golf tournament has donated well over $580,000 to veterans and their families. As we approach the golf tournament please keep focused on the reason we do it every year. We need all of our members to support this great annual event. I welcome your input, questions, and comments. My cell phone number is (317) 316-1919 and my email address is boilerbob1946@att.net. Page 2 Pos t News Volum e 4, Iss ue 1 Hello Everyone. I hope everyone is having a pleasant Summer. Thinking back to installation I feel very proud of the Legion Auxiliary members for there attendance and the idea that we all looked very uniform in our shirts alike and dark pants. Thank you Ladies for making us look good. The car wash that Judy arranged with the H.V.A.F. was a great success for all. Thank everyone for your contributions. I wish to thank Shirley Browne for her endless efforts in keeping the front flowers and shrubs trimmed and neat but I think its time to have some other help. Everyone this is our Post and everyone needs to help with this type of upkeep. Please contact me if you wish to help. Thanks. 2016 Membership will be coming out in late July or the first of August keep this in mind when you receive your notices. Convention will be held for us on July 10th, 11th and the closing will be on the 12th, expect to hear more after we have attended. M.G. Car Show will be held at the Post July 17th and July 18th. Please come and enjoy these cute cars. July 24th will be our Golf outing, sign up and play its a great time. There will be no Meeting in July see everyone on August 10th 7pm. Joan Hause Auxiliary President SAL NEWS Pictured above is a CHALLENGE COIN One side of the coin displays the American Flag and the MIA flag. The reverse side displays the SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION emblem and SQUADRAN 155-CARMEL INDIANA. The background is gold and the flags and emblem are in color. Show you pride and purchase one of these coins for only $20.00. They are for sale at the bar. This would make a great gift to a member of the SAL, AMERICAN LEGION, ALR AND AUXILARY. Our next SAL STEAK DINNER is scheduled for SATURDAY, AUGUST 1 ST from 6:00-8:00. We hope to see as many of our members there as possible. At this time, the entertainment has not yet been determined. We appreciate everybody who attends our dinners-thank you. Our monthly meetings are scheduled for the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 and all SAL MEMBERS are welcome to attend. We had a great turnout this past meeting. We had one member attend who has been with the SAL for 27 years and one member who had 1 year of seniority. The more ideas we get from our membership, the better, so get involved and help the SAL grow larger and more successful than ever! Craig Olivares/SAL Commander AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS It s riding season and we have been riding, riding. Every weekend there are many rides to participate in. We vote on our favorite causes and make plans to join up and ride. Lots of fundraising, fun and comradery. We voted at the last meeting to change our meeting time. The ALR meetings are still on the second Wednesday of the month but will start at 6:30 instead of 6:00. Hopefully this will make it a little easier for you and we will see even more members at our meetings. Our first Hamburger/Bratburger Night was a success. Thank you for your support. We serve hamburgers and bratburgers on the fourth Thursday of each month through September. Those dates will be: July 23 August 27 September 24 HAMBURGER OR BRATBURGER AND TWO SIDES...$7.00 Judy Holmes for Mike Pettijohn, ALR Director

Page 3 Pos t News HVAF (Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation) Volum e 4, Iss ue 1 The Annual HVAF Car Wash at the Post was June 6 th and, oh boy, what a great success. Thank you to everyone who brought your dirty cars, trucks and motorcycles to be washed and to those who gave donations. We also had our Annual BBQ for the REST and HVAF clients. This year, thanks to your generosity, we served Chicken, Ribs and the fixin s. There were approximately 65 Veterans attending this year. In addition to the food, there were horseshoes, corn hole, cards and music available for their entertainment. We had a hula hoop contest that was a huge success. Those Veterans can certainly sway some hips. I want to say thank you to all the volunteers and committee members that helped make this event a huge success. A special thank you goes out to two young men who were awesome and a great help. Thanks Thomas Campbell and Brady Benefiel. We had ribs left over from this event soooo.we decided to pan them up in smaller pans, freeze them and raffle them off. The money will be given to the REST program. Good luck to anyone taking a chance! They are finger licking good!!! HVAF s current urgent needs are the following items: Men s underwear (all sizes) and deodorant. As always they can use Soup, Peanut Butter, Canned Fruit, Pasta, Canned Meat, Canned Pasta Sauce, Crackers and any non-perishable food items. Thank you for your continued support.
