Teaching and Course Development New Courses Spring 2018 Co Instructor Contributed to the design and delivery of the first Global Field Experience for full time MBA students in Brazil. Students work in teams to solve real world challenges with large companies, municipalities, and small startup businesses. As part of this process, students (1) learn and master the ideation process and a variety of problem solving tools, (2) gain insight into the process of doing business in the global context and (3) cultivate the skills of working in teams and across national boundaries. Fall 2017, Fall 2018 Co Instructor Collaborated with a teaching team that included faculty from Rice Business, Rice Bioengineering, and Baylor to develop a course that brings together Rice Business students, Rice Masters BIOE students, and Baylor clinicians. Students work in interdisciplinary teams to validate and scope clinical needs, ideate solutions, draft a business model, and determine regulatory and reimbursement strategies for medical device startups. Spring 2017, Fall 2017 Instructor Created a new course that examines frameworks for making informed decisions about human capital when founding a new venture, including co founders, early hires, advisors, board members, and investors. Spring 2017, Spring 2018 Instructor Developed a new experiential course for undergraduate students that pairs student teams with local startup organizations on solving real world challenges using design thinking. Spring 2017, Spring 2018 Instructor Launched the Lilie New Venture Challenge course, designed for undergraduate student venture teams. Teams develop their venture plans and receive mentorship from entrepreneurs, investors, and subject matter experts. Fall 2016, Spring 2017, Fall 2017, Spring 2018, Fall 2018 Instructor Created an experiential course on entrepreneurship where students form teams, come up with ideas, and develop plans for innovation based ventures. Faculty Organizer 2012 2017 3 Day Startup is an entrepreneurship education program where university students learn about entrepreneurship over the course of 3 days in an intense, hands on environment. Co organize the annual 3 Day Startup program with a team of students, faculty, and staff. Facilitator 2014 2017 Facilitate 3 Day Startup programs at other universities. Travel to each university to provide on site guidance and to ensure that the program reflects 3 Day Startup s standards. Community Service The Houston Design Thinking Workshop (HDTW) is a community focused class where teams assemble and tackle problems sourced from the community. The class is free and open to all community members in Houston. The HDTW was created to to teach people more about the design process so they can solve their own challenges and share the process with others. Facilitator and Co Instructor February 2017 April 2017 Station Houston is a co working accelerator in Houston focused on helping early stage software startups by connecting them to community, programs, workspace, resources, mentorship, and the Houston entrepreneurship ecosystem. Mentor 2016 present Provide feedback and guidance to startups presenting at SXSW Interactive and SXSW V2V conferences. Accelerator Coach 2014 2017 Startup Weekend is a 54 hour event where aspiring entrepreneurs with different skill sets come together to share ideas, develop products, and start companies.
