In addition, take a few minutes to read about the new End Polio Now: Countdown to History Campaign. Two pages are included in this newsletter to provide information. You will hear more this year about how Rotarians will count up and then count down to End Polio. It is more crucial than ever for clubs and individuals to support Polio in order to complete the mission of eradication. Kay Davis, RRFC, has set a minimum goal of $1,500 per club in each district. To achieve this, large clubs need to give $2,000 or more, medium clubs, $1,500 or more, and small clubs $800 or more. Again, THANK YOU for a great year in Foundation giving. Your generous contributions have SERVED HUMANITY. I look forward to working with you this year in order to achieve your goals. Kay has also increased our goals by 10% for both Annual Giving and Total Giving. At the moment, these goals present a challenge, but we know we can FINISH STRONG and together we can accomplish anything. Let s pledge to support The Rotary Foundation as we are MAKING A DIFFERENCE in our communities and DOING GOOD IN THE WORLD. IN ROTARY ACTION AND SERVICE, PDG LEE MARTIN ADAMS, DRFC

Sustainability - Empowering Others by: Nancy L. Houyoux 7720 Global Grant Committee Member Global Grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in Rotary s areas of focus. Rotary is dedicated to six areas of focus: to build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever. The old adage is still true: Gift a man a fish and he will eat for one meal. Teach the man to fish and he can sustain himself and his family and pass on the knowledge to his neighbors. Rotary International Foundation has built in sustainability into it Global Grant process as a core measure of success. A grant as simple as purchasing a piece of equipment now extends to include transferring the knowledge to use and maintain the equipment, along with a written commitment to use and maintain it for the future. Just one idea for a grant can multiple in scope and become a multi-year project. Once example is an initial Rotary Global Grant to deliver incubators to a hospital in Uganda. It expanded, initially as a University wanted to assist by sending medical staff to provide some of the medical training. While in Uganda, they saw a need for more training so they returned. Now in its third year, the maternal child training has expended to include other medical/nursing personnel, so that they can become Train the Trainers to spread to other communities. You don t have to design all your grants. You can examine the list of approved projects through Rotary International. In this way, your club can partner with other clubs to contribute to a larger grant that is doing good in the world as the New Bern Breakfast Rotary is doing with the maternal child Global Grant in Uganda. Note: The minimum budget for a new global grant project is $30,000. The Foundation s World Fund provides a minimum of $15,000 and maximum of $200,000. Clubs and districts contribute District Designated Funds (DDF) and/or cash contributions that the World Fund matches. DDF is matched 100 percent and cash is matched at 50 percent. If have questions or your club is interested in learning more, please contact your district Rotary Foundation committee who can research and help you get started with the Global Grant Process: Fred Huestis email, huestis70@yahoo.com; phone, 252-617-5700.
